A different perspective?
@ Counter-Strike: Global Offensive forum

CS:GO might not have had the best of impressions among the CS community, particularly the 1.6 community but I must say that the game is slowly but steadily grabbing some attention in India. Now that may come to a surprise to many of you, considering India's economical background and whatnot, but I must add that the game has yet to fulfill it's potential in this huge market in India.

In India there are only two FPS games played in a grand scale - 1.6 and COD. Source never received the same level of attention as 1.6 for various reasons. I played source for a year, i liked it a lot but I moved back to 1.6 because it had more players, more teams and I was all in for the competition.

I guess that's whats the difference with CS:GO however, as I've witnessed many pro (for Indian standards) players making the switch from 1.6 to CS:GO with the right attitude. Almost everyone I've questioned about CS:GO that has played the game has given me a positive feedback. I myself like CS:GO quite a bit but the main trick behind it is to look at it as an entirely different game. The moment people start comparing CS:GO to source and 1.6 is the moment they start to slate the game. I don't think VALVe made it clear enough that this is NOT Counter-strike 2.

What baffles me the most is people constantly compare it to 1.6 and source when they fail to realize that VALVe made this game not just for PC-gamers but also for console gamers. Imagine having the same physics and game-play as 1.6 in CS:GO, how unimaginably difficult it would be for console gamers to control recoil of an AK-spray or to do a bunny-hop or a red-rock jump in de_nuke? I don't think anyone's really taken this into consideration before trying the game out in the first place.

India's having its very own CS:GO tournament very soon next month but only 6 teams have been invited. I wouldn't mind attending and providing some coverage since it's happening in Goa(the party-capital of India) but I'll be having my exams during that period of time so it wont be possible. Anyways, I'll do whatever I can to keep you guys updated with the CS:GO scene in India whenever possible. Cheers to whoever read my wall-of-text!
