Random fps drops in menus + game

Basically another FPS whinge thread.

Every other day my FPS decides to drop from 200-300(999 in menus to 500/600) to 100-150, my team mate on a lower end pc also gets these random FPS drops. It seems that they just come and go, one time I'll load GO up and FPS will be fine, then later in the day or a few days later it'll be screwed again for a few hours/days.

Not overheating or anything like that as I've checked both CPU and GPU load/temps.

System specs:
i7-2700K 3.50GHz
nVidia GeForce GTX 570 SLi
16GB Kingston ram (unaware of speed)
Game running on a decent SSD
