Gaming Laptop and Internet

I dont know very much about laptops in general to be quite honest, i work away from home quite abit in hotels and rarely offshore.

i have up to 1000 pounds to spend and would like a laptop good enough to run source watch movies BUT is also easy enough to travel with so quite light.

i would obviously also need an internet connection a few mates have told me to buy a usb modem stick although ive heard you can only use them in a phone signal area, can anyone give any advice on any other forms of portable internet connections would be much appreciated.
