Problems with getting stable FPS in-game in source.
@ Counter-Strike Source (English) forum

Hey friends from source,

Been playing quite a bit of source recently as CoD4 is generally dead and boring! However.. I'm having some problems with my FPS in-game as I'm not able to get constant 100 when I feel that I should be. In CoD4 for example, I don't have any issues getting constant 125/250 in a decent resolution and alright graphics. On paper my system is as good (if not better) than the people I'm mixing with but still they manage to get a stabler FPS rate than I do (constant 100). In the source stress test I'm getting around 600+ FPS every time with other people I know getting ~200 they still manage to get 100 FPS constant whilst I don't.

System:

Processor: Q6600 2.4
Graphics Card: 8800GT 512
Memory: 3GB DDR2
OS: Vista Home Premium

Only thing(s) I can think of are that source is very processor based and by using only one core of the QuadCore it's sucking the life out of my FPS (read this from other posts). Also, I use vista as my OS and whenever I close HL2 there's always has an error message for some reason :(

Tried various configs (fps configs and whatever) but they largely don't make a difference, nobody I know plays source/knows anything about how to fix it other than the processor thing but I don't see that being a MAJOR problem when most people I know have worse processors but can still get mega FPS quite easily?

Any suggestions/fixes are much appreciated, thanks in advance xx
