So here it is, If you don’t care I really urge you to stop reading and close your web browser because there are those that do care. To be honest I am no longer one of them.

I was thinking to myself the other day, Why the hell do I continue playing this game? Why continue to waste hours and hours in front of my screen, playing this particular game?

At first I reasoned that it was a generally fun game to play, that it like any other game had its little quirks and things that made you go “Cool!” You can relate this to other games such as in AVP2, bursting your way through a poor bloke’s chest while he is snoozing. But these little quirks are not enough to keep us playing in the long term, So why else was I playing?

As any wow addict will tell his parents while trying to justify spending up to twelve hours a day playing, “But it IS social, I’m playing with people from all over the world!” So it struck me, it wasn’t the winning that kept me coming back for more, although it paid a large part, it wasn’t the spinning deagle animation as I switched weapons and it definitely wasn’t because of the games charms.

The reason why I have spent much of my life playing this game is to meet new people (and I like winning.) Every day I strive to meet new people like myself, who share common interests. People who are like me but different. Now here we encounter a problem:

Our problem is that none of you are like me. I spend my time trying to help people. People come to me for advice/tech help/issues. And I give them the benefit of my knowledge for free. I help out where I can and If the problem persists then I will take it upon myself to find a solution. Why do I do this? Because that is the sort of person I am, once I commit to something I will follow it through to the best of my ability. My only fault in this area is that sometimes I may take on too much at once.

However, One thing you will notice about the CSS scene is that this is a fucking rarity. You’re more likely to find a black panther roaming the streets of London than a CSS player who will go out of his way to help someone to no benefit for themselves. Our problem (for the most part) is that you, are all wankers.

People are attempting to make money from games without actually helping the games themselves. The term cashcow has been thrown around and I am going to use it now. They see eSports as a cashcow. Now, I am not one to throw around accusations but for £5 a month per person, Tils you could at least sound enthusiastic. I won’t go as far as to say you’re intentionally hurting the scene, but the scene would definitely benefit some of the top players coming out and giving tips and stuff for free, without need for subscription.

When I play in mixes I hear deluded things like “I shot him in the face, how is he not dead?” When in reality if you wanted your crosshair any further from your opponent’s head we would have to change map. I hear people screaming in anger in 16bit sound about how ridiculous it is that their opponent “ACTUALLY peeked the corner and shot me.” What kind of dream world are you all living in to be surprised by this prospect? More to the point, why the fuck are you trying to justify why you died? Oh, the sweet sound of denial.

I am always the first to admit that I am not god’s gift at this game, but at least I have the balls to admit to myself when something is my fault, that last 10 seconds that could have been played better, that stupid push that left me exposed, or probably what I am more known for, releasing that nade by accident into a crowd of my teammates was PROBABLY a mistake.

Another issue of the average CSS player is assumptions. Be honest with yourself here, how many times have you glanced over something only hearing half the story or misreading something completely and act off that judgement? If I refer to this thread: http://www.cadred.org/Forums/Thread/94688/ Where it quite clearly states that I wanted to lan around the EU and I wanted people who are keen.

WHAT fucking moron then takes from that post: “we can’t lan around the the uk or eu, but he might wanna join anyway” or “He wants a serious high skilled team, That must mean that he wants to join my pub team with my RL mates.” Or even this gem: “He’ll take a new team if the lineup is sick, Im pretty sure that my team qualifies what with it being 2 people I just introduced to CSS last week, me and my little brother who has one arm”

The above quotes must have been what was running through the first 15 people who added me to steam asking me to join their teams. Their inability to read astounded me to the point of nearly losing what little faith I had in CSS players.

The average CSS player seems to have his head so far up his arse that he will insult anyone, even if they have no idea or no clue who the other person is. Personal Hate bandwagons are so full that people are fighting each other over who hates them more. It’s fucking pathetic.

You know you need to quit a game when people you consider your friends start to use the same insults on you as those you dispise. I honestly cannot stand the built-up hatred in this community any longer, the stench of selfishness and cloak and dagger backstabbing that goes on daily between people is sickening. And yet this same group of people want to bring eSports into the light, into mainstream. Dear god help us.

So the moral of this little story is:
1. Don’t be arseholes
2. Think before you act
3. Don’t waste peoples time
4. Try helping out once in a while

I have enjoyed playing with some of you guys and you know who you are, but for the most part you’re a bunch of arrogant judgemental pricks. If you really want eSports to succeed, try helping people out for a change or you will just drive others away.
