The gloves are coming off as the latest Esports Heaven tournament enters the playoff stage

Another big ESH tournament, another missed opportunity by the European Team Fortress 2 community! Yet again we failed to produce the numbers, despite the great lengths the organisers went to in changing the competition format to be more enjoyable for the unwashed masses who so fervently refused to sign up last time because of their virginitiphobia.

Perhaps the timing was bad, with the gruelling seventh season of ETF2L having just coming to a end, I’m sure many of you wanted a go out and sex the ladies or whatever you well adjusted types do.

So I’ll just stop banging on about it, probably doing more harm than good by now. If you want to push competitive TF2 forward, sign-up and support its tournaments; it literally takes fifteen minutes. Anyway, 80 out 128 slots is hardly a total failure when you consider the size of the player base relative the CS and CoD series, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't aim high.

Team Dignitas and The Last Resort are notable by their absence but with seven of Cadred’s April Top Ten teams involved, you know there will be fireworks. I Don’t Know? and Team Rockit both dropping rounds in the group stage is perhaps an omen of things to come. There are a few newly formed teams looking for a shot at glory, including the spiritual successor to What Women Want (in terms of dire names at least), WeMadeFux. Could an upset be on the cards?

Three rounds of single elimination action will be played out tonight to whittle the 40 remaining teams down to 8 for Sunday’s quarter and semi final fixtures on the road to the winner-takes-all €250 grand final at a date yet to be announced in the following week.
