i40: SAMITSKY Interviewed
@ i40 CS:S channel

Yep, we've done it again. Yet another interview with Samitsky - next up we'll be speaking to PEZ..

He's here with his team eXelon hot off the heals of a fantastic win at the Assembly Summer and eager to follow it up with a good placing here. Being seeded fourth they have some pressure on them to perform well and given that the team are lacking in major LAN experience it's going to be a tough task for them. Regardless they seem confident of replicating their online form here.

As for the man himself, f you're looking for an introduction then I'd suggest trolling through the site for one of the other 30 interviews with the living legend. Instead, I'll just give you this lovely piece of wisdom from Rebbe Nachman of Breslov:

Human fallibility being what it is, victory and truth do not always go together. Therefore, if you have to always win, you can't always be true.

Now we have that out of the way, let's crack on with the interview.

Good morning Sami, you've just been on the receiving end of a bit of a beating at the hands of DEMONiC.mix - what exactly went wrong?
Well we started on T side train which is never fun and losing the pistol round just made it worse for us as we were 3-0 down pretty quickly. We managed to pick up three gun rounds out of the remaining twelve which I think is pretty standard for T side train, if you don't win the pistol it is a tough, tough map. Then once again on the CT side we lost the pistol round which saw us go 15-3 down - by that point everyones head was down. We managed to string together a couple of rounds but it's so tough to try win every single round in a half. It was a lot closer than the score suggests I think but in the end the pistols cost us the game.

A lot of people had you guys pinned as dark horses for the tournament, ever since your win at The Assembly there's been an argument that you're now the best team in Finland. Do you think that this is maybe a little bit too much too soon for you as a team?
I do think that a lot of people have high expectations of us and when it comes down to whether I think we could beat a team like VeryGames then I'd say yes of course, we can beat any team if the circumstances are right. Anything can happen at the end of the day but we would need for everything to go right, on the right map etc. I guess it was a bit of a bad thing that we beat CKRAS at Assembly because if we'd have lost then nobody would have expected anything from us here and it takes a litte bit of pressure off.
Now this is your first i-series in quite some time and you've seen a lot of LAN's. How does this measure up in terms of an event?
f0rbes: I love i-series personally. It's a massive venue and I love the players, there's a bar and loads of other things to do. There's always going to be some delays and problems and this one has been particularly bad for it and it does costs teams as they can't really practice or get used to the LAN set-up.
When you beat CKRAS at the Assembly Summer they seemed to take some of the shine off of the win, stating that it was a bad LAN and, almost dismissing it. What do you think about that?
Well yeah I do agree that the circumstances at the Assembly were pretty random as the servers were terrible, messed up hitboxes and weird lag etc. But at the end of the day we were all under the same conditions so it was - oddly - and even playing field. We still won at the end of the day but they don't really give us the credit for it, which I don't blame them for because of the randomness of the event.
You've come through the Thermaltake Qualifier which gave you a healthy seed, but you've already found yourself in the lower bracket - are there any teams in there you think could cause you some problems?
Well there's still a few teams who have to drop into the lower bracket but as it stands at the moment there's no teams we're really worried about. I don't even know most of the UK teams and the only guys we've really practiced with before this LAN was Rasta101, so as it stands now I don't really fear anyone. It is difficult though because we don't know what we're up against and every team is an unknown quantity so it can cause some problems.
The UK scene is in a pretty bad situation at the moment yet we have a huge LAN like this three times a year. The Finnish scene on the other hand seems to be coming back from the dead, comparing the two scenes what do you think the UK scene should be doing more of?
Well the Finnish scene is a lot more segregated in the UK scene with many players who absolutely hate each other but the ones who get along tend to stick together for a lot longer but the UK scene on the other hand has always had loads of roster shuffles with only like 10 players at the top of the scene. It's only recently that the Finnish scene has come back to life and I have no idea how it's happened, even our Academy team are pretty good, just seems like a bit of a miracle haha.
Who do you think is the one team here who can challenge Verygames, apart from yourselves?
DEMONiC.mix definitely. I don't think OX will be up to it as they've not had enough time to practice with their new player really. They're a good team but I doubt they can challenge VeryGames, so definitely DEMONiC.mix.
