DH: Journal entry 3: Ferry - DreamHack
@ DreamHack Winter 2007 channel

Local time 06:00, travel time: 13,5 hours, location: Stockholm, Sweden.

After a short period of sleep we woke up. Neither of us had slept well. We both woke up when the ferry made the stop at Marienhamn (at around 01:30) it pretty much sounded and felt like the ship was sinking. Also the "steel pillows" didn't make the sleeping any easier.

At around 06:00 the ship arrived to the Stockholm harbor. Finding our way to the E4 highway wasn't really a big problem since the GPS worked well. Problems arose when we had to choose whether to turn E4 to South or North. We sure wanted to go South because that's where Jönköping is, but we missed the intersection because we weren't paying attention when we should've. The price for missing the intersection was what we got jammed in the morning work traffic. We thought that there wouldn't be any traffic problems at around 06:00 but apparently swedes go to work early.

The fateful intersection, we went right when we should've gone left

Since we took the wrong turn, we had to drive for around an hour on the highway to get to an intersection where we could turn around (the traffic really was jammed and we had to stop many times during our 4km detour.

GPS didn't really help us since we ended up into the Stockholm central where all the u-turn intersections had restricted turning directions. After a few intersections we were able to make the u-turn, and we were on our way to Jönköping. Wabbit was "a bit" nervous about the detour, luckily everything went ok.

Local time 11:30, travel time: 22 hours, location: Jönköping, Sweden.

The weather was really random during the ~350km trip. Fog, water, ice, darkness, everything you'd like to have on a road trip. We made a single stop and bought some sandwiches as a breakfast. Finally we arrived to Jönköping, and went to our hotel, here we had a bit trouble with the GPS too. First we followed it to a dead end street, after that we drove on bus lane (don't know if it was for one direction traffic only), and then we took another route through a bus/taxi lane. Luckily there weren't any police around :).

Some nice scenery at the Jönköping end of the road

The hotel room was pretty nice and there's a grocery store next to the hotel, so we shouldn't have any problems staying overnight there.

Next task is to get to DreamHack and start doing some coverage from the actual event.
