theSGL: CCL Begins Tonight
@ General coverage channel

A new era for CSS at theSGL.com tonight begins with the official start of the SteelSeries Continental Challenge League. This league is vast in scope and it's objective is to deliver something not yet seen before in on-line gaming as we attempt to unify the various countries, nations and regions into a system that mirrors the UEFA model for football. It has always been my belief that we can learn a great deal from football and the way in which it organises things. They do have the luxury of having teams that never fold - but that's something we just have to live with!

Now, I say the official start to the league as last night the first ever tie in the CCL kicked off in Hungary as Real Masters Team came out on top by a scoreline of 16-14 over .#frag-guild in this match that was played a day earlier than scheduled. This will hopefully illustrate the flexibility of the league to your requirements.

Now, lets make sure we are clear on a couple of things before tonight's "big kick off"

  • SGLac (clientside) All players should have already downloaded and made themselves familiar with the client. If you have not yet done so then please get the installer as a matter of urgency. You must be running SGLac during your game or risk of letting your hard work go to waste by way of default. SGLac usage is one of the few non negotiable factors in the CCL. Use it or lose it!
  • SGLac (serverside) Many teams have requested and received SGLac coverage on their server. Many more though - have not done so. Without this being added at our end players will nto be able to use SGLac on these servers during the match which will render the results void. If you have not already done so, please consult the FAQ section for details on how to  have your server added to the scheme. All players in the CCL were mailed with the need to do this earlier in the week so there is no excuse for not having it set up in time.
  • Server settings - You can download the config files needed for the match from the downloads section , upload these to your cfg directory on your sever and execute via rcon. The two you need to run are the sgl_knife.cfg and sgl_lo3.cfg, the third file will automatically be executed during the lo3 and does not need to be triggered manually.. Remember smoke and flash ARE permitted in the knife round.
  • Match settings - remember you are playing MR15 rules with a 1 min 45 second round time. Matches that end 15-15 will be reported as a draw and do not need overtime to force a winner. Smoke and flashes ARE PERMITTED in the knife round as usual with all theSGL matches.
  • Results - A leader of either team can input the result into the website without need for admins to do anything. If you need to put the result of your match in, go to the match details page. After the scheduled time of the match a link will appear visible to clan leaders only. On that link they will be able to enter the result. Remember if your match is scheduled for 19:00 you will not be able to see the link until it is 19:00 so do not panic if you can not see it before.
  • Help - admins will be available on IRC #theSGL.com all night, feel free to PM any of the @'s though to ensure the fastest help just shout out loud in the main channel and an op will be with you as soon as possible. There should be about ten of us on during the CCL matches so help will not be far away.
We are looking forward to this event with great anticipation and a certain degree of realistic expectation. We doubt very much every single game will be contested, there will be defaults somewhere along the line. What we have done is tried our hardest to ensure that the league divisions are made up of teams with enough players to part and that (for the most part) they have already added SGLac to the servers or had recent roster activity (ie - still alive). Hopefully we can keep problems to a minimum this way but if you find your opponent has folded/pulled out or otherwise will not be taking part, then please let us know so we can investigate and replace the team in question.

The CCL (league) and the CCC (cup) are personally important to me (uzi) because as you should have seen by now, I'm always trying to do something "better". So you'll find the admin team are right on top of things with this event. If you need help come and find us in IRC #theSGL or mail@theSGL.com and help us to help you make this league run as we know and hope it can do.

Good luck all players, teams, all divisions, regions, nations and to the whole continent itself!
