Following the revelations that the president of the MLG had been signed up to a site that essentially takes money in exchange for Twitter followers, Sundance DiGiovanni has issued a response on esfiworld.com.
There was much speculation as to how the issue, discovered by Paul "ReDeYe" Chaloner and posted on his personal blog, would be dealt with following the removal of DiGiovanni's Twitter account. However in the response he states that was a purely coincidental occurrence.
Addressing the matter he told esfiworld.com:
I don't deny that I am listed on that website, but I myself never signed up on it. Even if I did, I don't see what the big deal would be. I don't see anything wrong with using a service like this, and now that I know about it, I might event want to use something like this in the future.
As far as I know, I'm the only MLG account listed there. MLG as a company would never approve an expenditure to use a service like Twiends.
Yeah I did notice I was getting more followers, but it seemed like a whole lot of them were just Justin Bieber fans (laughs). I also get a ton of spam from bots. Anyway, I would rather have 500 influential people following me instead of a bunch of knuckle heads.
In regards to the deletion of the account he simply added that it "is related to a personal privacy matter" and that it was "just really bad timing."
He also added a somewhat strange statement, one that suggests his attitude might be different in future:
With these two days of my account being gone, I've found myself being a lot more freed up. I was always posting everything that was going on, but that will probably change now.
All too much of a coincidence? Who really knows? There's even an argument to ask who even cares? Certainly the use of a website like Twiends isn't against any laws and is within the terms and conditions of Twitter. Still, the whole episode will be viewed as a little embarrassing for all concerned.
