fi Finland vs de Germany 19/11/07 8:00pm Details

Apologies for the lack of coverage for the quarter finals which was due to rescheduled matches taking place without me knowing they were happening until the last moment. Normal service has now been resumed...

The Swedes have been going through the opposition like a hot knife through butter and whilst they haven't come throgh without conceding the odd round here or there they really havent looked like they have been in any kind of trouble as they ran out 2-0 winners twice in a row in their previous matches. With the core team taken from the fearsome Stockholm Magnetix and Faxzup line up's and backed up where need by other highly skilled Swedes now face arguably the next best side in their half of the draw.

Team England have made harder work of reaching this stage than tonight's opponents albeit only losing one full map (to a strong Hungarian side) they have been pushed into longer maps and onyl winning by the odd round on occasion. The team itself draws heavily from London Mint but has players from many different teams rostered and ready to go at the drop of a hat. Make no mistake, while the England team will not be favourites to win this match outright - there is absolutely no reason why they can't pull this off.

fi Finland vs de Germany

The winners of this quarter final to face cz Czech Republic in the semi final.

Finland disposed of nl Netherlands in their opening tie in a match where few doubted the probable outcome. Overloading their opponents throughout the tie the Finland team quickly ran out two rounds to zero winners. One thing that is certain is that they will not have things all their own way tonight against what has already shown itself to be a hard ass German side.

The Germany squad looks good on paper, but the game is played on a server and whilst they ultimately came out on top against an equally strong fr France team (in what I thought was one of the more equally balanced opening matches) they could consider themselves fortunate that a French player timed out whilst holding the bomb at spawn in the deciding round. This was certainly a cruel way for France to go out but these things happen. Anyway, skill by the bucketload from both teams here tonight make this match a real "must see" game.
