i32: Interview with Ragg3h from Prize-Play
@ General coverage channel

A lot of our readers won't know much about you or you team. Give us a brief introduction to Team Prize-Play.

Hi, I'm Ragg3h, Don Cheung in real life. My teammates are Jack "BaueR" O`Mahony, Cathal "Tumbot" Tummon, Graham "lilp" Davis, and for this LAN we have Alex "Ruffles" Riddington playing as our 5th.

What were your expectations going into the tournament?

We weren't expecting too much in all honesty, as we were forced to use a replacement for our 5th, and had limited preparation. We only found out we were attending LAN 2 weeks ago, and we intended to do a solid 2 weeks of preparation to get ready for it. However, people had conflicting schedules with work and education, so we only managed to get 1 week. However, we used our time wisely with a bootcamp at Starbytes LAN with TLR, and I think it paid off a lot.

The position you guys were put into was kind of hard, being forced to use a mixer and not getting much preparation. How did you blend as a team?

Yea, it was pretty hard at first but I think we adjusted well. When it started off we had conflicting ideas about the way the team should be run and the practice we should be doing, but we didn't shy away from the confrontations and it helped us develop as a team as well as a group of friends. Where we stand now I think we've all got a good understanding of each other, and we know where to go from here.

How do you feel about the tournament so far?

It's been MENTAL. For us to come this far has been unbelievable for us. After the first game against Salvo, we weren't expecting to do much at all, but we all just stayed positive the best we can and i32 has treated us well. We're very much a confidence based team, so it's important for us to keep ourselves and our team thinking positively throughout. We let it slip once so far against Salvo, and it got the better of us, so we've had a different approach to the later games.

What was the hardest game of the tournament for you guys?

The first game of the day today, against Salvo. It was on cbble which is a bit of a random map, and we got off to a really good start winning 5 straight rounds. We kind of lost it after that though, and struggled to string rounds together on T side. The most tense game was against Anomaly, which came down to the very last round on CT side. A lot of it came down to 1v1's and similar situations, and we managed to pull off some really important rounds, so it was an even closer game than the scoreline showed. It also didn't help that LilP timed out mid game, and didn't come back for a few rounds.

How confident are you about the match against Salvo?

Salvo are definitely beatable, as shown by their recent online performances, and their match against Ebuyer. Nuke is one of our best maps, but even considering that I think we've got a hard task at hand. I think the knife round will be important, because as I said before, confidence plays a big part in our game, and CT side will inevitably install a lot more confidence.

You guys have had trouble on dust2 in the past, but against Warning! you seemed a completely different team. What happened to make that transition?

Well ctx, and Rottich in particular, helped us out a lot since we got here. They tightened up a lot of our strats and helped our CT side which was incredibly weak. It was still definitely our weaker side, as we lost it 9-6, but we managed to bring it back with 10 straight rounds on T side to win the game.

What are your overall predictions for the tournament?

well I'm not gonna shock anyone with my 1st place prediction, as I can't see anyone beating fnatic realistically. I think London Mint should take second, and faxzup third. Despite the BYOC computers their play has been amazing throughout, and I think they'll do well.

Thanks a lot for the interview Don, and best of luck in the later rounds. If there's anyone you want to thank, now's your chance.

First of all thanks to Ruffles for coming in last minute and doing so well. Also thanks to our team leader Moomin, who unfortunately couldn't make it this time around, and our manager, Mad. Huge thanks to ctx as well for their help, and thanks Felix for the interview.
