My take on the Combine
@ Blog channel channel

The following article is purely my opinion and does not represent the opinions of cadred.org or CGS

For this I'm going to start at the end and work backwards, sorry if it's confusing.

The subject of the day and at this rate the next month is NoA being drafted over fnatic. I'd like to shed a little light on the occurences and give my personal take. First of all I'd like to say both teams are good friends of mine, look at this shameless namedropping, and if possible I would have loved for them both to be drafted. With EYE playing so well over the weekend this simply wasn't a possibility, and I, along with most of the community predicted a fnatic eye draft. Throughout the whole weekend the games between those three teams have been amazingly close. The stats you saw showing the amount of rounds won didn't include some of the challenge matches that I watched that simply got lost in the system. Between fnatic and NoA there was literally no more than 10 rounds, both having beat each other several times.

During the final pick, BSL wrote fnatic, scribbled it out, wrote NoA, scribbled it out, wrote fnatic, scribbled it out wrote NoA, you could see the tension on his face. At this point redeye said to him, due to time constraints that whatever he had written down was final. Jonas scrunched it up and handed it over. My jaw didn't leave the floor for the next five minutes.

To those who say Jonas being a "bad" or "biased" GM, have no clue. Not only did he make the most astute draft choices, going for PGR (the game in which the majority of CGS points are scored), he also issued the vast majority of EU challenge matches, and he's an incredibly intelligent guy. At the end of the day fnatic versus NoA really only comes down to a few rounds, fnatic failed to consistently beat NoA at the combine. I still think if I was the GM I would have chosen fnatic, however NoA are a great choice regardless, and will work very hard. The community should stop having a go at fnatic, if you want to still have a go at Jonas feel free, but the guy made his choice, let's see if it works out for him at the World Championships

Working further backwards, the event. Everything ran near flawlessly. The admin's did a superb job, SourceTV wasn't actually meant to exist (BLAME GOTFRAG) until myself Corin and Regnam stepped in. The arena looked great and the GUI and pc's had very few problems.

Coverage: Now I know that many of you moaned about the lack of coverage. However you need to realize at the event I was working for thecgs.com not cadred. Although I would have loved to drop everything and go here my contract is set in stone. I think some of you moaning about the coverage overlooked the fact that thecgs.com had everything, from up to date scores, articles and interviews, to literally live coverage of the Combine. I know coverage wasn't 100% but that was down to logistical issues, not lack of effort on the behalf of myself and the staff.

People: First of all Dr. Gonzo is a legend. If not only for his incredibly interesting and at some times downright satirical writing style, to his great personality and unwillingness to share a hotel with me(in-joke). karpov is the hardest guy I've seen working in eSports, ever. This guy was working 19 hour days and doing all the tedious crap no one would want to. If anyone deserves eSports writer of the year its him. Before the event I had my doubts about hoodini's writing abilities, he proved me wrong and then some with some brilliant content, as well as being a great guy to go clubbing with.

There isn't nearly enough here, but I'm exhausted and going to finish it tommorrow. We'll be at the London Draft to bring you all the results and information. I'm off for a long sleep. Peace!
