Today the pro medical-marijuana publication Culture Magazine ran a story about the performance enhancing qualities of marijuana and its endemic use amongst professional gamers.
While some of the research in the article could be dismissed as fluff it did include a quote from Alex Walker, Australia's World Cyber Games Tournament Director, who said that use before big events was pretty widespread.
He commented:
I’ve seen a number of players at national tournaments who came in ‘baked’ purely so they could play better
Any potential benefit seemed to be linked to the regenerative properties it has on neurons, which not only augments concentration when it comes to gaming but studies show can also be enhanced by the act of gaming itself.
Regardless, given differing global attitudes towards marijuana use it remains to be seen if anyone in e-sports is going to take the step of asking players for urine tests before or after competitions. Who knows? It could make for the perfect excuse to hold on to those winnings...
