Below you can read the most interesting questions from a Questions and Answers session with the developers of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, held today.
The session has not officially ended yet, so if more happens, we will bring you more updates from it!
Be sure to go get the download too, more details here.
Is 1680x1050 supported?
yes
Various questions surrounding DirectX
ET:QW is made using OpenGL, so DirectX 10 is not required. DirectX 9c or above is required, as this is used for sound input and output.
Will there be a Anti-Cheat software or anything related to that?
Yes, the game ships with punkbuster support
How big will the demo download be?
Around 700MB
How many maps we can play in the full-version of ET:QW?
There will be 12 unique maps released with the full game spanning 4 campaigns
Is there a smaller dl from Beta 2 -> demo or do we need to DL it all again?
You'll need to download the demo seperately to the beta
Could you tell us a bit about nick and registering nicks in the demo, please?
For the demo only, nickname registration is not required.
Will there be a map editor?
A Map editor (and SDK) will be released shortly after the game is out.
Can you host a server with the demo edition
Yes
Seeing that most developers has moved to DirectX from openGL (I think Carmack even did?) why was openGL chosen? Was linux compatibility ever a concern?
id Tech has historically always been based on OpenGL, we continue this tradition. It does indeed make ports to Mac and Linux easier
I've not seen or read up enough about ET:QW but will there be bots available for offline play? If so what will the aI of these bots be like?
Yes! There will be bots. The bots are designed to be a complement to the game, and be a fun way to train and play offline and online with friends.
How many players can play at 1 server?
The game is balanced for 24 players, an instance can take 32. We find 24 to be the sweet spot though
Are dial up connections (56k) supported at all?
Sadly no. We could probably do so only by making ETQW turn-based. And play-by-mail.
What limitations does the demo have?
The demo doesn't have persistent stats, but apart from that is pretty much unrestricted
How long do you plan on supporting this title? you rolled patches for wolf et for almost 3 years now...
id Software and Splash Damage are absolutely commited to the ongoing support of the game. Hard to say in exact numbers of years, months, and days, but we're not going anywhere soon :)
How many servers will there be and in what countries?
The demo has not yet been released and I currently see 400 servers online, spanning various countries in North America and Europe.
Iis there quad/dual core support?
Yes
Are all servers "Ranked" servers - or is this an extra server hosting cost?
You can run unranked servers yourself. Ranked servers are ran by Game Service Providers. They are providing hundreds of free ones for people to play on.
Do you have a projected release date for a Linux Client?
No projected date, but it's looking good
Is there a plan to release localized version? Im japanese
There are localized versions for many languages, however not for Japanese, you can however make your own language packs which can even be used on pure servers
Do you plan some support events 4 the game? like donated tournaments?
There's a bunch of tournaments planned, we'll be annoucing this stuff soon
Do you plan to sell Quake Wars on Steam?
Steam is a great system. A lot of the decisions about how the game is sold are publisher decisions. However, we certainly would love to see it on Steam.
Is the name I choose ingame protected together with my account login or could sombody else fake my ingame name and tag in the full game?
Once you get the final game, the name of the account will be yours and yours alone while playing online.
What were your inspirations while developing this game?
We took a long hard look at all the previous games set in the Quake Universe. Certainly there are lots of hints towards Quake II. In the Quake universe timeline, ETQW is actually set before Quake II and III, so they're sort of ETQW's sequels, despite having been made first. Confused? You won't be.
