The following views dont represent Cadre's or any members other than the writers.

Okay, I know there's been a lot of discussion about it, and a blog has been made to give one perspective about the rankings, so here's mine.

The main criticisms are as follows :
- Being written by newswriters rather than top players
- Not based on facts
- Wizards and n!faculty shouldnt be there
- Cadre shouldn't be so high

The first point is the one that annoyed me the most. Yes, we're news writers. We spend a lot of our time keeping track of the CSS scene so we can give readers a wider insight into the scene. We organise and watch matches, we keep up to date on roster changes and results, and most of us play the game as well. No, we're not the top players in the scene, but most of us have a clue. However, our forté is undoubtedly our writing skill, and our ability to write articles. Why is it then, that when we write an article, we get flamed to shit for it because people disagree? I don't see anyone else giving up their free time to check all league and LAN results and then compile the best list they can of it?

Also, as Corin said before, of course a whole community is going to know more than 5 or 6 people who make the article. No matter how much we know, we got 6000 views on that article. Are you seriously expecting there to be no discrepancies between 6 people and 6000 people? We do our absolute best to make it as accurate as possible, but no one is perfect, so of course there are gonna be mistakes.

Secondly, not based on facts? What the hell kind of facts do we have to base it on? So we base it purely on results, and Wizards would probably be in there due to Eurocup and LAN79, even though they only got that result against Cadre because Cadre overslept. So are we to account for that? If we do, it's not purely on facts, and people will complain again. We would also have to assign different tournaments different values, which people would still complain about. At the end of the day, there is no perfect way to do it, as h0lm said, but we like to provide as much interesting news and articles as we can, so we gave it a try, and people still moaned. We said we'll take all criticism on board (and we did, admitting numerous flaws in it) and people still moaned.

Wizards and n!faculty shouldn't be there. Agreed. I've admitted that mistake and taken it fully on board, and explained my (flawed) thinking numerous times. In hindsight I would have put Roskilde and aTTax in there, or maybe eSuba, to replace them.

People have also complained about Cadre being placed so high, complaining there is bias in it. From an outside perspective, I can see why people would think that, but do you honestly think me and Corin have any allegiances with Cadre? Do we have Cadre posters on our wall and a little angeldust homage because we once wrote news for their site? No, we put them there because they've had a succesful SGL run, and did well at ASM, and have a core team that has consistently proved themselves since competitive source.

At the end of the day, once you get past the top 4, the clans are pretty interchangable, and anyone can beat anyone. If you put #5 against #10, it wouldn't be that much of a shocker if #10 won, so it's pretty fucking hard to put them in order, and we did the best we could with the information we had at our hands. We've taken all the feedback on board, we will take it into account next month, now chill the fuck out and stop moaning. It's just news, and of course it's opinionated...
