DotA 2 Starts With A Bang
@ Scene news channel

With League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth both announcing huge plans for their games in the coming year many began to think that Valve had missed the boat in taking so long to release the hotly anticipated sequel to the hugely popular Warcraft 3 mod DotA.

The games developer have a number of massive titles already under their belt and have become known for developing games that go on to become eSport titles, but DotA two will be the first game they have chosen to develop aimed specifically for the competitive community. In the past Defence of The Ancients was considered one of the largest e-sport titles on the planet, with numerous organisations providing for teams and plenty of tournaments to keep them occupied.

Upon the release of Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends the game began to decline as people chose to play one of the two more modern titles. It was announced way back in 2010 that Valve would be attempting to re-make the classic title and that they had employed one of the original DotA developers in the shape of Icefrog. Since then though the company have been coy about releasing details of the game.

Recently things have began to speed up and with the HoN and LoL competitive scenes finally beginning to take off Valve have pulled a masterstroke in dropping the mother of all announcements. That they will be hosting the first ever DotA 2 tournament live at Gamescom this August. Details of the event were released earlier today on the Dota 2 website, and revealed that 16 of the worlds best DotA teams have been directly invited to the event, where they will play for a massive $1,000,000 first place prize.

The announcement is sure to get not only DotA, HoN and LoL fans, but fans of e-sports hot under the collar given the incredible amount of money offered to the winners by Valve. On top of that they have also announced that they will be introducing a large scale beta this fall, should things go to plan.
