ASM Summer 2011: Group B Round-Up
@ Assembly Summer 2011 channel

Group B comes to a close with one of the tournament highlights so far, despite not living up to its potential as the "group of death"

I had figured that the group feature the second and third seeds might produce tighter, more exciting games, but it seemed like Galant’s RAGE.eSport were phoning it in. The Russian-Finn mix got 5-0’d by the big dogs of Ze Germans and then again by Anexis eSport.

Disgustingly they managed to avoid last place in the group by fending off The MIPC Organisation in a seemingly close 4-3 victory on Gullywash Pro; I can’t say for sure as I was too busy with my casting duties on VanillaTV.

I can’t help but feel for MIPC who put in some sterling performances against the group favourites, taking two rounds from both Anexis, 7-2, and the Germans, 5-2. So they finish bottom of Group B with no wins, despite have won more rounds that RAGE.eSports – sickening!

The main event for me was the third round confrontation, Anexis eSports proving why they are Top 10 in Europe with a superb implementation of the Heavy tactic on Gullywash Pro. The spinning minigun of Oskari 'M0re' Pihlajamäki was asking questions of Ze Germans and Crew to which they had no good answer.

Again and again the Anexis captain put himself in to excellent positions, creating deadly conundrums for his opponents to solve like some beefcake riddler. More important was how his team mates played off smart position and crisp timing, as running a heavy is definitely not the easy option. Particularly impressive was the wily play of lone soldier, Henrik 'Honky' Lindström.

Damn! Really impressive stuff, and not just because I predicted it, but it was actually a true clash of brain versus brawn; Anexis vs Ze Germans. Definitely my favourite game of the tournament so far, but the best is still to come as we progress to the Semi-Finals in just under and hours time.

I’ll be casting the SG-1 versus Ze Germans game with my new best friend Ziggy 'nvc' Orzeszek on VanillaTV, whilst our cohorts Torden and Exfane will cast the other Semi-Final between Anexis eSports and NORDIC-eSport.PENTIA. Miss it and miss out!
