I'm from Glasgow and feel threatened when walking through this place. On our mile long walk to the event we're shouted at by some local girls - they must have caught a glimpse of my abs - whilst being frowned upon by the locale, outsiders aren't welcome in a place like Telford, still it wouldn't be long till we reached our safe haven. It's been a while since I've actually been excited about an i-series but that giddy feeling has been creeping up on me all day.
Newbury was becoming stale and depressing and the change of venue came at the perfect time. The International centre is everything I expected it to be, the gaming halls remind me of Stoneleigh and are beyond huge, whilst the exhibitors hall and main stage are bigger than ever before at an i-series; the main stage actually reminds me of DreamHack. After setting up we took a lengthy tour of the building and spoke to some of the players and organisers - expect an interview with the man himself, Wizzo, in the coming days.
mTw have had some issues in setting up which caused them to default their EPS match that was due to be played this evening. The team had been having trouble with their internet whilst their desks proved too unstable and lumpy to play on. After a quick switch of seats they seem to be settling in well and will be hoping to prove myself and the rest of Europe wrong by finally toppling the mighty VeryGames.
Whilst we're on the subject the VeryGames team seem to be as calm and collected as anyone I've come across, laughing, joking and messing around before getting set-up late into the evening. It's clear that they feel confident in racking up yet another achievement. One team hoping to stop that happening will be Epsilon, the British team with the best chance of doing some damage on home soil this weekend.
Although I can't see them producing the results needed to break into the top 2 it all depends on how the other challengers perform. One side I do see shocking the rest of the teams in attendance is eXelon, who have come on leaps and bounds in the past few months. In their last taste of 'official' action they narrowly lost out to mTw in the i-series qualifier, however they are known as a team who performs better at LAN and their star man - Ted 'haunted' Svensson - is in the form of his life at the moment. I expect a final between these guys and VeryGames.
The Brazilians are a complete unknown quantity, having turned up in the UK last week it's difficult to measure just how good they are in comparison to the rest of the teams in attendance. However, after speaking to various players who have come up against them during their week long boot camp - they are not to be taken lightly. They've been here all day and look more than prepared for the task at hand, let's hope they don't disappoint.
We'll be heading back to the comfort of our hotel in a few minutes time but you can expect plenty of coverage coming your way throughout the course of the weekend, starting with a tour of the venue tomorrow afternoon. Stay tuned to Cadred.org.
