Six of the leading e-sports organisations have threatened to boycott this years ESWC event after learning that they would have to pay $200 per player should they wish to enter.

Last week the organisers behind the ESWC announced details of this years event, set to take place this October. In the press release they revealed the total prize breakdown for each of the games at the event, including CS, CS:S, SC2 and DotA whilst also stating the details of the qualification process. Unlike last years event the invited teams would be required to pay a registration fee of $200 per player.

This news hasn't gone down well with most organisations and today six of the biggest in the world announced that they would boycott this years event should they choose to keep the registration fee in place. The six organisations involved in the possible boycott are the 2010 CS champions Na`Vi, SK Gaming, fnatic, mTw, mousesports and Evil Geniuses. Should the boycott go ahead it would severely impact on the tournaments being played at the event.

mTw Chief Executive Officer Lars Eiben said the following on the teams website:

We are not willing to pay a fee for a tournament that, on the one hand, solely exists on our players, and on the other hand, we have to bear all the costs for accommodation and travel. All teams share this opinion and have agreed on this boycott. We have decided to make a statement. The sport primarily thrives from us, the clans, and in recent years we have repeatedly seen such scenarios, and we never resisted.

Due to this fact we have decided that this is the last straw, therefore we are taking this measure. We are open for discussions and are willing to find a compromise. The next step has to come from the ESWC management.

Na`Vi CEO Alexander "ZeroGravity" Kokhanovskiy also added the following on their website:

We were surprised with the idea to implement a registration fee instead of holding national qualifiers. The decision itself contradicts with the concept of World Championship because anyone can now "buy" himself a slot in the Grand Final. If tournament organizers stay idle to what professional e-Sports teams demand, you will not see ESWC 2010 champions defending their title this year.

The organisations have stressed that it's now on the ESWC to make the next move. Stating that should no changes be made they will not be sending their teams to the event in Paris. We will keep you updated.
