SGL Pro Panel Launched!!
@ Spotlights channel

With the announcement of the new season of Counter-Strike: Source over at theSGL, we decided that we had to do something special to do justice to the amazing Tournament.com Invite League that is taking place this season.

To that effect, I am proud to introduce to you the SGL Pro Panel, in association with Tournament.com!

Some of the top names in European Counter-Strike: Source will be joining us, here at cadred, to give us their views on the Tournament.com Invite League, the rest of this 4th Season of CSS at theSGL, and anything else in the scene that takes their fancy.

Without further ado, let me introduce the pros to you all!

Paul "ReDeYe" Chaloner was one of the world's first professional electronic sports TV commentators. He has broadcast around the round, including on TV stations, and internet audio/video streams, and has covered events such as WCG and ESWC, to name but two.

Starting at ClanBase Radio, Paul became really famous in 2005, when he joined radio iTG, and traveled around the world for them. He is currently Head of QuadV, a relatively new company, which has done amazing well since it started earlier this year, covering many events, from WSVG2007 to the Intel Core 2 Extreme Challenge, to WCG UK

Paul had this to say about the up-coming season:

The SGL continue to bring high quality CS:S tournaments and I have little doubt this season will be any different. I am looking forward to see how the teams match up this season, especially with CGS starting in europe and the effect it will have on team line ups. We should see some very diverse collections of players, especially from those not eligible to play in CGS.

The season will once again have some fantastic coverage and you can bet QuadV will be right there to help that.

Mark "Phunky" Harwood is most likely known most for his team at EuroCSS.NET, Phunky was the original founder/creator of the site and for the majority of EuroCSS.NET's life was also the sole provider of the news posted on it.

Apart from just covering the goings on within the scene, he is known for playing his part in it as well - he was one of the founding members of mEm-Gaming.co.uk, and also part of the 2005 UK representatives for the World Cyber Games in Singapore.

Mark had this to say about the up-coming season:

The upcoming SGL season should be highly interesting. It’s fantastic to see an online tournament with such a huge prize fund, I think it really should set the standard for European Competitive Source. With all the talk of CGS it will be great to see how some of the newly formed teams from the CGS under 18 rejects do.

Ben "ben0" Balcombe has been a key player in the UK scene since Source was released, since the beginning he has always maintained his presence in a top UK side, and for the most part, the top UK side.

Unfortunately luck hasn't always been on his side when it comes to stability, but regardless of this he has managed time and time again to build up new teams with fresh talent and reclaim a/the top UK spot and compete with the best Europe has to offer. He is by a long shot one of the most accomplished UK players.

Ben had this to say about the up-coming season:

This SGL season is going to be fantastic, a great line-up of teams, a well structured league, anti-cheat, awesome coverage, and stats at your disposal thanks to TheSGL skilltracker – and of course a huge prize fund! - what more could you want!?

Juha "aNGeLdusT" Kurppa has been playing counter-strike since the beginning, starting as a little kid in year 1999, and played ever since. He converted to Source in the autumn of 2005, and has played in various top teams, such as firstcore, eL Niño, astralis and lately in Insignia Cadre. In May, 2007, Juha decided to retire from competitive gaming, but there are rumours that he's making a return soon.

Juha has been voted as the best European counter-strike source player by gamers, and he was voted into GotFrag all-star game, to represent north Europe. He has also represented his homeland, Finland, in various NationsCups.

Juha had this to say about the up-coming season:

I think this season at SGL, will be the best so far. I'm sure that the great prizes will lure majority of the top teams, and the community to be a part of this successful league.

Mark "Uzi" Thompson has been playing video games since just before they came out. It was called pinball back then. Self styled "old man Uzi" became tired of being overlooked when the leagues chose their teams and decided to make his own. The result as you're aware is theSGL where he spends an average of 22 hours a day trying his best to make theSGL a place where you guys want to take part: I’m pretty sure this season you all *will* want to take part, and a huge part of this European Invite League is indeed thanks to Mark, for which I am personally hugely grateful. I think most people have seen at least a taster in the past of Mark’s talent with words, and he will no doubt be filling a good many column inches over the course of the season.

Whilst not playing in any organised games for the past three years Mark's 1.6 team Boozeplatoon were pretty handy "back in the day" and were more than capable of giving anyone a run for their money. His true strength however always lay in organising things, a talent that has been put to good use over the lifetime of theSGL.

I'm delighted to have secured such an awesome prize for you guys and I'm so proud that it is theSGL that is able to deliver this event to you. I'm sure it's going to be an awesome season that we can reflect back upon as the best event of its kind to date. Most of all though, I'm looking forward to the downright serious play that Tournament.com's generous sponsorship will bring about.

Paul "Ovi" Monks’s dedication to e-Sports is equalled only by his love of Poker. Having helped the –CSA- team rise up through the ranks, he then facilitated their move to Four-Kings, and went with them, joining the 4k Managerial team, where he remains to this day, long after –CSA- have departed.

A friendly face at LANs as well as online, Paul has advised many teams in the past, and is a hugely respected member of this community, by players and managers alike.

Paul is no stranger to pro panels, having headed up the Intel Core 2 Extreme Challenge panel, and he will be Manager of this SGL Pro Panel, sponsored by Tournament.com

Finally, I will be the general editor of this Pro Panel, bringing you the views of these individuals, perhaps a few editorial comments, hopefully a few quotes that make Uzi the man he is, and some guest interviews, through-out this season.
