Review

The first thing that strikes you is the visual quality, the high resolution combined with the x264 codec keeps everything crisp and clean. Full Anti-Aliasing and AF Filtering has been used. Something which has dogged the quality in past Surreal movies.

Intros in surreal movies have never been a long winded affair, and the final part of the trilogy is no different, lasting only 45 seconds. It's a nice smooth intro, with nice smoothing, some action, and some really nice moody colours.

Of course no movie is any good without some awesome frags, and here is where the surreal series really excel's, think of almost anything in this movie and it's done. Triples, no scopes from across entire maps, aces left right and center, 5 against 1 clutches. The frag quality is easily the best in a source movie so far.

Music is always hard to review, being subjective. However I absolutely loved the soundtrack. All of it is originally used in this movie. The first few songs are quite punchy rock, but never too heavy, the last song (The Postal Service - This Place is a Prison) is a very interesting choice. It bucks the trend of the rock/emo music used in most movies, and goes for a very calm style. This works amazingly well with the musical synch, and the lack of game sounds really enhances the atmosphere, this was easily my favorite song in the movie. The syncing throughout is superb, you're hard pressed to find a shot out of sync. (other than the obvious sprays)

The editing is quite significant, if you think closely about it, but it works seamlessly with the video and audio. It includes quite a fair amount of third person footage, this is what I feel has really lacked in source movies in the past.

Obviously no movie review is complete without highlighting the negative points. I didn't enjoy the intro massively. I also felt the gaussian blur was slightly overused, and perhaps along with the glow effects. However the positive points outweigh the negative ones one hundred to one. Notable jaw dropping points include the 3D bullet scene, and that memorable final song.

All in all I think this is my favorite Counter Strike: Source frag movie, it ticks all the right boxes, amazing frags, soundtrack, editing, visual quality and feels very slick and professional. I hope you enjoy this movie as much as I did.

Here I interview Lepi:

Hi lepi, can you introduce yourself to the readers?

Hi guys. My name is Manuel "Lepi" Lepitschnik and i am one of the moviemakers in the Infected Productions movie crew. I am 22 years old and a huge movie fan, it doesn't matter if it's CS, CS:S, or Hollywood movies.

Well obviously we're discussing your release surreal 3, congratulations on an awesome movie, are you pleased with the final result?

Well, I am never pleased with a release. Lets say I am happy to release the movie, but I'll be never fully please, I am a perfectionist.

So what are your future plans, surreal 4?

To be honest, I am happy that surreal 3 is done and that I won't have to deal with another community movie for a while. It is just too much work, maybe I'll make another community movie in the future, but not for a while, that's for sure. Max "Velda" Sereduke is working on a Community movie at the moment called Climax, and this is going to be one of the best source community movies ever.

Can you expand on this Climax project?

Well, basically it will include the best frags that we can find all in one video. Comparable to the 1.6 movie bombsight, but obviously with the editing and quality you've come to expect from an Infected Productions release.

What are the future plans for the Infected Productions team, are you looking for projects?

At the moment we are working on the reason gaming movie, which is edited by Phil "DeadCell" Mcparlane, and we are working on the movie that won the Ebay Auction, but this will be shorter then we thought and will be less money as well. Other then that we are working on Climax and looking to talk to top clans around the world to find the right project for us.

What are you going to do with the money you recently earned from the eBay auction and other projects?

We thought about spending it on some whores on the street, no but seriously, we will get a well designed community page, offering movie tutorials, movies from around the scene, forums and much more, just maybe we can setup a meeting between the members of Infected Productions in the real world in the near future or maybe even attend a LAN together.

Do you see Infected Productions ever expanding beyond your core expertise of source movies?

Hmm, if i look at the whole E-Sport community I would say yes. It's about time to get the wagon rolling and get some other projects done aswell, for example, promotional videos or movies about other games, the E-Sports community is growing and growing and it would be "stupid" not to give it a shot. I am a dedicated CS:S player and i really think this game has a lot of potential to get more competitive.

This is your third movie release, and your biggest so far. What made you want to begin work on Surreal 3?

After working on surreal 2 I was tired of movies for a few weeks, but after a little leisure time I felt a desire again. I started searching for demos, but I had realised early in the project that with the new movie my expectations and the expectations of the viewers had risen. I have to tell you I started over about 7 times, but then I finally found the right music and editing and I'm pretty confident that this is a movie you will enjoy.

Thanks for the interview Lepi, any shoutouts?

I would like to thank the whole Infprod team, everyone who sent in demos, all the people that know me and I want to thank all the people that watch our movies!
I also would like to thank source-radio, efever, gamerszone24, style-productions, gotfrag and Madox from different-productions.
