DH Winter: Final Standings
@ General coverage channel

Huge underdogs fnatic.MSI have done the impossible and won their second major event of the year after a stunning 2-1 victory over their countrymen Lions.

It's not often that the fnatic organisation send a team considered underdogs to an event, but given the recent run of poor form and poor luck that's exactly what happened this weekend. The Swedes have been struggling to reach the level of consistency achieved with their previous lineup since the turn of the year and have been forced into making numerous changes. Finally settled in and with a team who work well together the MSI Beat It tournament this weekend was the perfect stage for them to showcase their talents, and boy do they have some talent. The wise and experienced pairing of Patrik 'cArn' Sättermon and Rasmus 'GuX' Stahl are complimented brilliantly by the youthful and hungry Faruk 'pita' Pita and Richard 'Xizt' Landström.

Throw in the teams latest acquisition, Danish AWP superstar Michael 'Friis' Jørgensen and you have a team with the potential to beat anyone on their day. When the side lost the talented Swede Markus 'Delpan' Larsson to their rivals over at SK Gaming it was clear that a huge hole had been left and they lacked the sort of firepower having one of the worlds best AWPs brings. Since picking up the Dane however they have looked back to their best and his ability with the big green gun allows the riflers to run wild and open up bombsites, something that is required from teams if they hope to beat the very best.

The team were lucky to be given a kind draw in the elimination stage, finding themselves in the bottom half of the play-off bracket and avoiding the likes of SK Gaming, Na`Vi and AGAiN - arguably the worlds three best teams in the run up to the event. That of course didn't mean it was easy to book their place in the final and they had to overcome stern opposition from both Anexis and mousesports before they could get onto the stage. Waiting for them in the final was another Swedish team, but not one that you'd expect.. The young upstarts in Lions managed two emphatic victories over the Polish side AGAiN and Ukrainians Na`Vi to give them a shot at fnatic, and they were in no mood for messing around.

Neither of the matches were a walk in the park for Lions either, with both AGAiN and Na`Vi proving to be more than a match for the team, when you break it down though just a few rounds are the difference between a 5-8th finish and a podium placing, and those rounds went in favour of the Swedes. Coming into the grand final they had already surpassed all expectations and were playing devoid of pressure, something that showed in their playstyle and the manner in which they took the lead and subsequently held onto it. Starting on the T side of de_nuke the team came storming out of the traps to take an early lead over their rivals and although they were pegged back a few times they looked to be the dominant force for the remainder of the half, heading into the CT side 10-5 up.

After switching sides Lions took the pistol round once more before locking down the CT side, conceding just three rounds to win the first map of the bout 16-8. fnatic had pulled it back after trailing by one map twice in the elimination stages against both Anexis and mousesports, and they continued that trend after the map switched to de_dust2 where they looked like a very different team. A close first half was followed by a complete CT lockdown in which Lions scored 0 rounds, forcing a third map, de_tuscan. Once more Lions stormed in front on the T side of de_tuscan and they took a strong 10-5 lead into the second half, they were then hit by an offensive side from fnatic that left them stunned.

One man in particular was pulling all of the strings, and it was the AWPer Friis who was opening up bombsites at will and picking up an average of 2 kills per round. By the end of the match - which finished 16-14 to fnatic - the Dane was sitting on 33 kills with only 6 deaths, an incredible feat given the setting and what was on the line. The victory in the CS tournament makes it two for the fnatic organisation who also picked up gold in the HoN tournament against all of the odds.
