Cadred v3 - The First Steps
@ Blog channel channel

The development of the new Cadred website has started. We already have got some new helping hands to assist with the project when it really starts. Currently most of the development is just planning and nothing concrete has yet been done.

If you have coding or graphical skills, or just have great sense of usability, make sure to contact me via IRC. Query "Aroppuu" at IRCNet or Quakenet. (yea and it would be nice if you are also interested in the project ;)

Current development team is as follows:

So far I've done some thinking and created a map of the new site. You need a pdf reader, Adobe Acrobat for example, to view.

View the map (.pdf)

The map shows the currently planned stucture of the new site. As you can see there are some changes to the current site. The new site is better divided, reducing the number of links in the main menu and making the similar pages closer to each other. For example, all media pages have been moved to own media section that provides images, videos and files. Files section will include demos, patches and so on.

We try to improve our news system also. All the news are on their own section with better availability than currently. The actual articles will also get a facelift.

Some of the bigger changes are that the home team (Insignia Cadre) will have its' own secion rather than taking big part of the site's layout (and usability with all those links). With this improvement we are also making the site more neutral to the community. You don't have to be a fan of IC to use the Cadred site. Naturally the fans will get all the info they need from the new dedicated section.

Another big improvement will be the personal profiles. So far they have been quite static with only the commenting ability. As you can see from the map, each user will get his/her own image and video galleries. Everyone can also keep up their personal blogs. Naturally all of these can be commented (if the user allows it). All the latest / best user blogs, images and videos will be shown on the community frontpage, giving good visiblity to your content. That is at least if other users think it's good and rank it as such ;).

There are a lot more improvements (some of which you can guess from the map, and some of which will be a surprise :P) to come. I believe that after this job is done, there's no competition to Cadred if you measure it by the provided community features.

That's about it. Be sure to post your every thought and improvement ideas. If it's concerning about this blog or the map, post comments here. If it's a new idea please post it to our dedicated development and idea forum.

I'm really excited to get the new site up and running. It's going to be a HUGE project but once it's done, I'm quite sure we don't have to do similar update for a while to outrun the competition :P. Next development blog will most likely come when we get the first good version of the graphical user interface (the stuff you see on your browser). Comment if you want to get more detailed blogs on how the stuff works.

PS: Remember that if you want to help and be part of the project contact me via IRC.
