It's that time again folks, the biggest event in eSports
comes around just once a year but it's normally worth the wait, even if
we did have to wait a little bit longer this year.
This has been the latest WCG event that I care to remember,
with the tournament normally taking place around October or November,
however it's only fitting that arguably the biggest year ever for
e-sports is brought to a close by one of, if not the most prestigious
event on the calander. Traditionally the 1.6 tournament has proven one
of the biggest draws for fans and spectator events but this year the
qualification process and the hype have been dull and non-existent.
There are numerous reasons for this, not least of all the absence of
defending champions Na`Vi and current Dreamhack victors fnatic.MSI, but
also because of the fairly hefty drop in prize money - for the second
year running.
Although always supporting 1.6 it seems like the tournament
organisers behind the WCG are investing less and less in the game, a
shame given that right now it could use the backing of such events.
Although it's not going to be one of the most exciting events in
history there are a number of good teams in attendance, including both
SK Gaming and the newly housed ESC Gaming side, two time champions at
the WCG themselves. The matches are set to begin in just under an hours
time and will continue over the coming days. Stay tuned to Cadred.org
over the weekend as we keep you up to take with all of the goings on in
Korea.
