CGS starts in March
@ Blog channel channel

That TV show didn't get too much attendance in Europe, after CGS announced their new league type and they selected the game Counter-Strike: Source the community here is so quiet. But we have to prepare for the next step, on a site there was an interview with DirecTv's Vice President Steven Roberts. Before we go onward here is the most interesting part of the iview (full article here):

Like a newcomer to any scene you are facing some resistance, the biggest issue is the choice of Counter-Strike: Source over Counter-Strike 1.6. The regular argument for Source is that it is newer and the graphics are better, when hardware sponsors (e.g. Nvidia, Intel) are involved this is understandable but I don't think they apply here. Is the reason for using Source over its predecessor purely because it looks better and may appeal more to the mainstream public or were other factors involved?

As I stated earlier, There are going to be some things that we do that will be controversial. We have built an “A” team of people and feel very comfortable with this decision. The decisions that we are making are done so with one common goal, to push professional gaming to a new level. We are building the structure necessary for future growth and aspiration of millions of gamers around the world. There will always be an avid community for 1.6 which is great for Valve and its fans. We believe that Source provides a better vehicle that can complement the league in the long run while keeping some consistency for those players that would like to transition from 1.6. This will not be the first or last tough decision that will be controversial…

Other organisations have tried and failed to push Source on the community, notably the Cyberathelete Professional League and World Cyber Games in 2005, both times they went back to 1.6. Similarly the CPL's World Tour in 2005 used Painkiller, an unpopular game that only a couple of dozen players competed in and as soon as the tour ended was no longer played. Although the players will follow the money are you not concerned that the lack of support from the millions in the community will hamper what you are trying to do?

We are not pushing Source on anyone. It is a great game. The Championship Gaming Series will be comprised of other great games as well. Players can compete in any genre that they please. Regardless, we expect to highlight the best players in the world that must display the acumen, confidence, skill and dedication of the best athletes in the world. We are not into this for the short term. I know that it is sometimes difficult to think in terms of years when the industry and players are so young. However, we have a long-term vision and the resources to try different things. I hope that the community realizes that this is a process and being reactionary is not good for anyone. We will make some mistakes but it will not be for the lack of trying or believing that it is in the best interest of bringing stability and growth to eSports.

So why we have to prepare? According to that interview and the CGS website the so many times questioned gaming revolution is coming to start at March. The guys over at CGS give us a little snippet about this years actions so not to forget to click on the http://www.championshipgamingseries.com website.

In other hands EFGaming released an EFG CGI movie in the past few days. They attended on the CGS event in Decemeber and took the first place and the 50.000 dollar. In the movie we can see their best moments from match-to-match.
