Evolution of Cadred - Cadred v3
@ Cadred news channel

Description

DEVELOPMENT AND FEEDBACK FORUM

Insignia Cadre is taking the next big leap, to evolve to the next generation community. Basically this means that we are starting to develop a new version of our website, Cadred.org. During the last 6 months that I've been around, the things have gone pretty well. In the summer we had around 1400 registered users and around 35000 visits per month. Now we got nearly 9000 registered users and well over 100000 visits per month and it's raising steadily.

I think we currently provide quite good base for the gaming community (currently mostly CS:Source) to grow and get more united. We also provide some nice features that I don't know any other site provides. Sure we lack some but that's going to be fixed by the release of the all new Cadred community site. My personal goal is to make the new site as an unsurpassable (or at least something you can't compare to current competitors) community platform, after which it's up to the staff and users to make it as their own.

It's going to need a lot of effort to complete. Even if the current amount of "complete" code can be counted in tens of thousands of lines, big part of it has to be refactored and fit to the new architecture... and of course you have to add all the cool new features :).

Status

The project is currently in the planning stage. No release estimate yet.

Help us help you

I'm sure everyone wants to see a bigger and better site so here's what I (and other developers) need from you.

Visitors

If you are an user of Cadred or any other gaming community site, your ideas and feedback are the MOST IMPORTANT data for creating new features and updating the old ones. So if you have new ideas or think that some of our current features need a face lift, please let us know. The ideas can be anything so don't be afraid to tell us.

Developers

If you are a skilled web developer it would be more than helpful to get your experience to help with the new site. I believe it's quite good chance to get to work on a big scale project and good reference if you want to show it around for work purposes etc.

Programming

  • Technology requirements
    • (X)HTML, PHP (object oriented), SQL, version control (SVN), good basic programming skills
  • Bonus technologies
    • JavaScript, AJAX, CSS

Graphics

  • Required
    • Good visual skills in 2D raster graphics
  • Bonus
    • HTML+CSS (very preferred), vector graphics, 3D graphics

I've created a new forum for development ideas and feedback. Be sure to post any project related ideas to there.

If you want to help us (by joining the development team) please contact me (Aroppuu) via IRC. If you have dev ideas and feedback post it to the forum.
