CM_ maps?
@ Blog channel channel

What at first seemed like a great idea is now being flamed by a lot of people. It seems like most source players dislike the CSP mod because it is turning their beloved game into 1.6. And this is in my opinion true.

The makers of the mod stated that they would combine the best of both worlds, which basically meant that they would use source's graphics and 1.6's gameplay. This statement alone is already heavily favouring the 1.6 community. But after seeing the pictures in this article: http://ancients.hu/cikk/24 I think it would probably be better to just stop developing this mod.

Instead they should start working on those CM maps again. There is an (old) post about it here: http://www.cadred.org/v2/index.php?p=articles&id=681 They released an stripped version of de_train and de_cbble which was great. It improved the FPS a lot and it removed all the useless objects, while remaining that source feeling and source gameplay. Sure it still had some bugs and issues but it was only a test version. Some screens and information can be found here: http://www.sourcejunky.com/page.php?37 The download links don't seem to work anymore though. It would be great if someone uploaded them!

I am not sure why they stopped making those CM maps. I heard a rumour that they got threatened by Valve with legal action if they continued. I think that is very unlikely though. Maybe they stopped because some people stated that they didn't like it, for example here: http://www.cadred.org/v2/index.php?p=articles&id=698 But I think that we all agree that something has to change. Valve won't update the maps and if we want source to become as big as 1.6 we need some better maps.

So lets hope some mappers start working together to improve source! :D
