No Blizzcon For 2012
@ Scene news channel

As the title says, Blizzard has announced that there will be no Blizzcon for 2012, but will this hinder the scene or gamers at all? Not one bit, no need to fear! The 2012 Battle.net World Championships will take its place, and Blizzcon will make its return in 2013.

Many people's hearts dropped when they read there would be no Blizzcon, only to be set back on track by the announcement of a WCG-esque tournament spanning countries around the world, nearly 20 at that. With intentions of extending this number in the coming years to expose other Starcraft 2 scenes in countries, the future looks bright for e-sports. With prize pools "rivaling that of Blizzcon's championships from 2011", we need not worry about a lack in that area. The official statement is below.

Blizzard's statement:

Blizzard Entertainment is proud to announce the 2012 Battle.net World Championship, a major global eSports event featuring some of the best pro-gaming competition in the world. Slated to take place in Asia toward the end of 2012, the Battle.net World Championship will host this year’s StarCraft II and World of Warcraft Arena World Championship tournaments. Blizzard gamers and eSports fans from around the world will be invited to attend and witness some of the most skilled pro players on the planet battle it out for cash and glory.

We’re excited to be showcasing Blizzard eSports on a truly global stage this year. We're also heavily focused on getting Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, and Heart of the Swarm into players’ hands as soon as possible. In light of our jam-packed schedule, we’ve decided to hold the next BlizzCon in 2013.

More details about the 2012 Battle.net World Championship and BlizzCon 2013, including specific dates and locations, will be coming in the months ahead.
The question arises "Will this be even BETTER than Blizzcon?" and only time will tell, like everything else. It looks very promising, being funded by Blizzard as well as major gaming organizations from around the world that will be announced as the statement says, in coming months. Although the thought of Blizzard being able to pull this off like other events they've hosted in the past is plausible to some extent, we should endorse Blizzard in this venture and hope for the best.
