Project Mandic Ends
@ Scene news channel

The Brazilian CS project Mandic has lost backing and will now have to find other ways to compete in the CS scene.

The Brazilian side is widely regarded as the best in the country and have played together in one form or another for many years now. Some of you may remember their performance at the Copenhagen Games early last year, under the name of Team TargetDown. After flying all the way to Copenhagen from Brazil they ended a relatively disappointing 9-16th finish at that event. They did manage to get themselves in the spotlights though, mainly because of this interview, in which one of the best AWPers in 1.6 Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo stated Source was the more tactical game.

After a successful run with FireGamers and compLexity.br the team parted ways until Mandic announced their plan to put together an all-star team, allowing community members to vote for the players they felt deserved the chance. Naturally it was the remnants of that compLexity side who were selected and they got off to a decent start under the Mandic name but eventually hit a slump. The side have now been hit by a major blow as the main backer of the mandic project has announced it will not renew the contracts. Instead of the team the sponsor has decided to support events from now on.

Mandic was:

Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo
Bruno "bruno" Ono
Bruno "bit" Fukuda
Renato "nak" Nakano
Lincoln "fnx" Lau

The Brazilians, who in their heyday managed to win WCG Pan America amongst others, will continue to play together according to Toledo. The question remains though if this is the end for their South American influence in the professional 1.6 scene, seeing as sponsorships are particularly hard to come by in that area.
