Jibes between players is the norm in almost every sport, it helps to get the opponent riled up and can mess with their mentality so much that they stop playing their own game; just look at what happened between France captain Zidane and his Italian counterpart at the world cup final a few years ago. In a game such as CS:S any mental advantage you can gain over your opponent is vital, which is one of the reasons it's so commonly used and it's been proven in numerous occasions to work.
Personally I think it adds something to the game and it's a test of mental strength for players to deal with the attacks, however there is a line and it has already been moved, crossed, wiped out and re-drawn... Then crossed again by some players here this weekend. Most of the tedious scenes happened during the Rasta Xd vs VYE match - which is still going on as I type this - and some of the exchanges had me questioning not only my sanity but the education system in Britain.
The VYE team are well known for being tough to deal with in a LAN environment - I like to call it the SpacePandas effect - because they find ways of getting under the skin of their opponents. Some of the stuff today though had me thinking I had stumbled upon a half term getaway for under 13 year olds, with some of the worst insults I've ever had the displeasure of hearing..
Haaaaa, you should have quit!!!!
Was followed by howls of laughter from what I presume was the watching crowd and I presume were all minors. Top it off with some casual racism - perhaps an ode to the antics at Epic 6 - and the people watching on from a distance began to shake their heads in disbelief. Rasta Xd won the the match in the end pretty convincingly and now sit in the grand final undefeated. VYE must battle through the lower bracket, hopefully in silence, before they can have another pop.
