In association with Alienware
Gaming history has been made at DreamHack Summer 2012. Bachir "Athene" Boumaaza has reached $1,000,000 in the name of Save The Children, a charity which helps poverty-stricken children in Africa.
Athene wanted to make a change, using his internet fame as "The World's #1 Gamer" to make a huge contribution to the gaming community: He set out 80 days ago today to raise $1,000,000. He reached the goal today live at DreamHack on the main stage. Being one of the only solo gamers (and people at that, as the sum of money is insane for one person to raise) to raise that amount of money for a charity, Athene has pushed forward the world of PC gaming in the last 5 years.
DC Entertainment, a massive contributor to the cause, has promised an ADDITIONAL
$500,000 donation to the fundraiser if the goal was met (which it was) bringing the grand total to just over $1,500,000. A picture of the moment when the amount was reached is below. Well done Athene, well done gamers from around the world, and well done DreamHack! Cadred will be covering the event in full this weekend until the last match, so make sure you know what to do: keep it locked and stay on top. Look forward to an in-depth interview with Athene following DreamHack.
