Sung Je "RainBOw" Kim (his Brood War alias) has been around the Starcraft scene since the early days of Brood War, despite never winning anything major after the $25,700 2nd place prize pot he took at the TG Sambo Intel Open way back in October of 2010.
He's like the Light of Starcraft 2, always showing consistent results in tournaments here and there, but never able to clench a huge tournament. With a career starting in 2001 with Oriental Orions, then SKT1, he was considered the Master of Protoss by players in the scene (before the likes of larger names came into play). Earlier today, RainBow announced he would be leaving for South Korea's military program, joining the 306 Support Group during his trip.
Due to his age of 28, he will only be required to serve 26 days in the military, but will be out of competitive play due to this. Known to some for having his fiance, Ga Young "Aphrodite" Kim stream games late at night while he does himself, Rainbow has become somewhat of a household name amongst streamers within the last few months, taking off in Fall of 2011 by competing in nearly every Playhem Daily for 3 months. As we've seen before, individuals enlist in the military and decide to retire shortly after they return; let's hope things are different for Rainbow, and he returns into the scene with flying colours.
