In what was called one of the best series ever played in Starcraft 2, GuMiho of FXO all-killed the legendary SlayerS team to take home the title of GSTL Champion. Let's take a brief look into what went down.
MMA was the first out on Antiga Shipyard against GuMiho. Keep in mind earlier in the week MMA knocked out our boy viOLet from Code S, but he was focused and ready to win this game. wait a second, not so fast -- GuMiho went fast expand into a quick dual-gas build, allowing for either a heavily upgraded bio-based army (or mech-based with fewer upgrades), and that it was -- a quick hellion drop that went into a heavy marauder push took game 1 quickly. A few baits with the units and MMA was forced to GG.
Min was up next, making this a TvZ on Atlantis Spaceship, a map that is known to only be played in the GSL tournaments, as it's not on ladder or included in other leagues. GuMiho once again went for a fast expand into heavy geyser play, but this time opting for a ballsy dual-upgraded mech army, something very rare that we don't see unless the Terran is on 3 bases. After retreating from Min's army near his main Hive, GuMiho went aerial assault mode and popped out a few ravens, playing a thor/raven defensive style that would, after the ultralisk harass failed, win him the game and make it 2:0 for FXO's upcoming star that never hit the spotlight until now.
Heaing into game 3, CoCa was up next. The controversial Zerg player has been riddled with scandals and situations not necessarily in his favor since the conception of Starcraft 2, but nontheless we all still love him. Somewhat of a blunder in this game, just as things were starting to go in GuMiho's favor, he became supply blocked for an abnormal amount of time, something we rarely see at this elite level of play. He was forced to pull SCVs to even out the game, revealing a hidden fourth base of CoCa's on GuMiho's side of the map. In a very peculiar game, GuMiho won by pulling nearly three dozen of his SCV's, making it 3:0 for FXO.
Ryung was up next, more recently known for his epic fail at MLG Summer Arena, losing that game against Stephano's late-game Zerg play. Ryung vs. GuMiho in Game 4 on Whirlwind in a TvT -- a spectator's worst nightmare, as TvT's usually last roughly 25-27 hours if played correctly. Typical banshee play from GuMiho went back and fourth. Yet again he pulled SCVs, a very strange style of defense but one could say it's a wise style, as it forced the quick GG out of Ryung making it 4:0.
Puzzle was the last remaining SlayerS player in the GSTL. The hero, the miracle worker, the man with the potential to solve the impossible, but was it enough? Unfortunately, no, he would ultimately become the 5th Slayer to be slain in this slaughterfest that GuMiho was making of the team. GuMiho went for the bold double expand into quad gas, allowing for nearly any build he was wanting. Opting to go thor/marine against colossi/archon, both players pushed and ultimately GuMiho came out on top -- he's done it. FXO's Terran wiz kid has just 5-0'd SlayerS, making him the first ever player in history to all-kill in a GSTL final and also to take out the entire SlayerS team.
