Berlin who? Oh yeah, Allianz. The Berlin Allianz Counter-Strike: Source team. Little has been seen or heard of them in the past few months, you'd be forgiven in thinking they folded. Folded they have not, they will be back at the CGS EU Combine with a vengeance. "We are even more hungry now," said David "olander" Olander-Persson, a person who sat down with me and filled me on what was happening.

So, David, it's been a bit quiet on the Berlin front, can you update us on the teams progress?

Hey Max! Yea it has, we have been playing some online leagues to stay in shape and people have been really busy with other things than gaming. Fifflaren has been in New York and I've have loads of schoolwork to be done. Also majk started a new job so everyone has been busy.

Right now we are preparing and playing as much as possible to be as good as we can at the combine.

Do you think not being at any big recent LAN's puts you at a disadvantage going into the combine?

Not a chance. It might even be better for us since we are even hungrier now. At least that’s how I feel, and everybody knows what happens when I go nuts!

So with both the UK based franchises making roster changes, will we be seeing something similar from the Allianz?

: I don't know, I love all of my team but I think roster changes are bound to happen sooner or later in every team. But this is simply not my choice since it is my boss that makes those kind of decisions. I just want a team that will win in every situation and we didn’t quite reach up to that at the world finals, time will tell what will happen!

I was referring to the pre-combine team you will be bringing to the tournament, any changes there?

Not that I know of

So on the subject of the individual draft, do you feel you've done enough to keep your place?

Well I sure hope so, otherwise I would really love to know what I could do better for next season. From my point of view I'm happy with what I've done last season but you can always do better!

Right now, if you were the GM, bsl, and you had to choose one franchise player and four protected, who would they be and why?

I can’t really say who I would protect because I can’t say that until the combine but I would protect those players that I didn’t want to lose no matter what. It’s hard for me to say because I don't see it from Jonas point of view. Regarding the franchise spot I would give it to the player that has done the most for the team.

Ok, rephrasing, so let's say bsl got fired for his part in a sex scandal involving Bill Clinton, you were the GM, who would you protect and franchise?

Damn, that question is so hard and I don’t know but the only thing I can think of is that maybe it’s not worth to protect any of the forza drivers since there are total of 4 spots and it seems that there will be loads of good drivers at the EU Draft. Regarding FIFA I would keep Manyna because he’s just the best there is, or was in FIFA 2007. I have faith in him automatically.

Continuing on DoA I don’t know, but I have faith in Liefje too because I know how much she practises but I think I might send her back in and redraft her but on the other hand I don’t know if I want to risk losing her since she’s both good at DoA and for PR. I think I would protect THE TACTICAL since he’s the captain, but I could redraft him because I'm pretty sure Emil will pick Skatan Milla for DoA next season.

Regarding the CSS team, I don’t know because it is a team game, but I guess protect as much as possible for the spots I have left.

So the individual draft raises some interesting possibilities with the CSS team, if you could choose and four European players to join yourself in a team, who would it be?

Those four players that are the best at the combine and those four players that I like the most as individuals! Skill is a lot, but not everything, if you're and idiot you don’t belong in the CGS no matter how good you are.

You seem very skilful at dodging my questions tonight David! So I'm sure you've heard the rumours about ferus being at the combine, can you confirm or deny this?

Excellent news! Do you see a stable roster being kept over at the Stockholm Magnetik, or do you think we can expect more changes

They will have some major changes I think. Emil hates to lose and he will remake his entire team I think

Do you think the variable pay scale for franchised/protected/drafted players will create some conflicts within the team? A teammate could be earning $10,000 more than you for playing in the same team.

I don’t think so because you have probably deserved it.

So back onto the Allianz team, whose decision was it not to attend some of the big lan's in the run-up to the combine, (i33, lan79)

Lan79 I’m away to visit my girlfriend in Canada and i33 Fifflaren was in New York. Pretty obvious what happened :) But I would really love to go to LAN79 again, cool LAN and I think it will be nuts this time.

What is your opinion on the decision for only one team from Europe to be at the world finals?

Well I don’t know it is a 50% chance that we get to the world finals and it is way smaller for the American teams. I would say it’s fair but I would rather have a regular season as the Americans do.

So how’s your CGS experience been so far, would you recommend it to anyone else?

Think I've made myself pretty clear everywhere what I think about the CGS. It's the best league in the world with the best players in their respective games and if you don’t think that’s true, go to the combine and prove me wrong! The LA trip we had was nuts and everything about it was awesome and I'm really looking forward to going there again!

What kind of turnout do you think we'll see at the combine? Last year had only 5 teams.

No clue actually since it is individual and many of Europe's top players are afraid to go since it is expensive to go there and you are not guaranteed anything. That totally sucks since we will miss some of the best players in Europe because of financial issues.
