"What could be worse than OBi's group stage performances", people were asking only a couple of hours ago. Thankfully, we now have the answer - the title of this article.
After some very poor performances in the group stages, OBi have finally started to step it up with a convincing victory against wtm-Gaming. Cadred spoke to Peter “res1st” Gaspar about the event so far.
Hey Peter, how are you doing?
Fine, yesterday we had a bad day because we travelled for 20 hours, we took the ferry, we had a car that couldn’t get on the ferry, so we had a terrible trip here, and we couldn’t get one of our rooms in the hotel, so we had a bad night’s sleep, but last night we rested and I’m feeling good today.
You had a disapointing group stage, but do you think you can come back from that.
Yes, this is a team thats capable of coming back on LAN, we’ve shown that many times, both in Italy and in Hungary against Reason, so yeh, it was a disappointing group stage, we’;re used to playing on 22” widescreen TFTs, which is very differrent from these 19” TFTs – We had a hard group, and everything went wrong. It was also disappointing that we had to start with the hardest match against Crossed.
You’ve since returned to your usual form to some extent at least, beating wtm-Gaming convincingly, the team that was just a round away from beating four-kings – what has that done for your confidence?
It’s much better now, that was the first time when I could feel our normal play, and I think we can maintain it. We have to improve a bit on our communication, but I guess we can do it.
Your next game is early tomorrow morning, and will probably turn out to be against Tweaked who beat you 16-14 in the group stages – will that loss effect how you go into the game?
Last time it was our game, we lost from a 14-11 advantage, and we are looking forward to the match and I think we can beat them with our current form, as we are getting better and better every match.
If you do make it passed Tweaked (or possibly MGC), you would then face your first big match of the tournament, against either Four Kings, Epsilon or Mortifer – are you looking forward to the pressure?
Definitely looking forward to it, I’m really a player who likes the adrenaline, and I can push my team to play better and better, and anything can really happen, but I think we can get through. Everything will depend on our current form.

Looking else where, who do you see being the final teams in the event?
I guess Magnitude will be in the Upper Bracket final with MGC, and anything can really happen when we get to the Lower Bracket – we can be in the final as well.
Outside the servers, how have you been enjoying Denmark.
We are having a lot of fun, this is our first time here, people are very nice, the atmosphere are very good, we’ve just been getting used to the PCs here. I’ve met with several people who I haven’t known before, and they’re very nice guys, for example the Crossed guys, or the Magnitude guys. They’re very friendly, and we were at this Kayak Polo game, and had a lot of fun there.
Do you see yourselves attending any more major EU lans in the near future?
Definitely, we want to go to as many as we can, everything depends on the circumstances in Hungary, but we really want to go as a side, to the major lans.
How would you rate the event as a whole, from the organisation of it to the venue?
This is the best event I have ever been to, I can see only one bad point and that is that you cannot watch as many matches as you want, because the arena are locked when matches are playing. I would like there to be TVs down in the gamezone where we could watch the matches too. But on the other hand the gamezone is very good, and we are really enjoying the Xbox games there.
There was a little delay yesterday, but that happens at every lan, it wasn’t really a problem.
OK, thanks for your time, any final comments?
I would like to thank OBiNet, and pigikft for being there. And I wish good luck to all the teams here!
