PCGS: Call of Duty 4 preview
@ PC Gamer Showdown - CoD4 channel

The PC Gamer Showdown Call of Duty 4 tournament is upon us, with a prize fund of £5,000 up for grabs. With lots of lineup changes happening since the last big event, we can expect to see some interesting games at the event.

Without actually having the final team list to hand, we were able to find out a few of the big names that will definitely be attending: Team Dignitas, Reason-Gaming and Fnatic. Winners of the online tournament and thus the free tickets to the event Infused-Gaming, have not confirmed whether they will actually be present at the event or not. Though this list does look very thin considering the amount of prize money up for grabs, the confirmed teams definitely do look like they could give some entertaining matches. Below is a preview of 3 of the teams we know are attending. I will do a preview of the other teams in attendance on Friday night once the list has been confirmed, but we think its unlikely there will be any more of the 'pro' teams at the event.

UPDATE: Fnatic have pulled out due to one of the members of the team having some serious personal problems making them not able to attend. We wish him all the best.

Reason-Gaming

Reason a regular at most if not all of the UK LANs are venturing back to Stoneleigh Park again, for a chance to get their hands on part of the £5,000 prize fund. Reason had a reasonable summer in terms of LAN events, coming 5th-6th in both the The Experience and i34, but having a disappointing run at The Antwerp Esports Festival. Though this team did look very promising at i34, knocking i-series veterans Team Dignitas from their pedestal but then losing to Infused in an enthralling game, they suffered some lineup problems shortly after as most of the summer teams did.

Losing most of their lineup, the team that we will see at PCGS is a new team that we have yet to see at any offline event. With some very talented individuals in the team, we expect them to certainly hold their own against the other two big guns, but will they be able to beat Dignitas again or send Fnatic crushing to the ground?

I managed to ask rzE, the Team Leader, a few questions about his thoughts and expectations of PCGS.

PCGS, a LAN that we think hasn’t had as many signups as first thoughts is just around the corner. With both Dignitas and Fnatic confirmed, how would you rate your chances against these 2 teams and anyone else that comes your way?

I think going into any game vs these 2 teams now could end with any result as all 3 teams have new lineups and so need to adapt to each others teamplay but I feel we have a strong team and good enough teamwork now to stand a good chance of winning the event.

Who would you say pose the biggest threat to you? Fnatic or Dignitas? Will you take the confidence of your exhilarating win against Dignitas at i34 into an inevitable match against them or is that definitely all in the past?

It’s all in the past now as they have a new lineup but I think Fnatic pose the biggest threat as they are just 5 talented players who i think are going to work well together. Whereas I feel Dignitas could have some internal conflicts with certain players in this new lineup but only time will tell.

Team Dignitas

Team Dignitas are undoubtedly the biggest name in UK Call of Duty history. But they have definitely not been the power house we all thought they would be over the summer LANs. They had a strong 3rd placing at AEF, but then a disappointing 7-8 finish at both TEX and i34, left the Dignitas management wondering if this was the right team for them.

With some lineup changes, they now have a very strong team at hand, with 3 of the ex MYM players joining their ranks. This team definitely looks very promising on paper, with some incredible individuals, but will they be able to gel together enough to take the victory at the event?

I managed to speak to Blackmane about the event.

Dignitas haven't had the best of summers on the CoD4 LAN scene. But you are one of the few teams attending with your new and improved lineup. What are your expectations?

Well with only three decent teams turning up there isn't really that much hype, we've mostly just been playing our official games but this week were practicing every night until the lan. If all goes to plan we should win.

The only two other teams that look like they could cause problems for now are Fnatic and Reason. Both have also had recent lineup changes. Do you not see them as that much of a threat? Especially after Reason's huge victory over you at i34.

Of course they are a threat, but since we have Jason '#1 eu' Perez O'Connor it shouldn't be so much of a problem :)

Fnatic looked so promising after their win at the CGS UK combine, but then really struggled over the summer LANs. Their best performance was a 4th place finishing at TEX, but they only managed 7th-8th in the AEF, and 9th-12th in i34. Again they suffered some lineup changes as a result of the summer LANs, and their new team certainly looks strong enough to challenge any team that comes their way. But will they find the form they have so badly missed? We know they have it, but will the form make it through UK customs and arrive at Stoneleigh Park this Saturday?

We currently haven't been able to get hold of anyone from Fnatic. When we do we will update the post with a small statement, as well as confirming the lineup.

UPDATE: Fnatic have pulled out due to one of the members of the team having some serious personal problems making them not able to attend. We wish him all the best.
