I was confident going into CT, obviously it’s the easier side, but when you go 5-0 down it’s always really really hard to come back, but when we got into the T side exactly the same thing happened to them, so it wasn’t that much of a problem. What was it that made you start so badly?
Obviously if you lose a pistol you’ve lost 3, and then the first gun round is the most important round of the game, if you lose that you have to eco again. I don’t know, we just hadn’t really got into the game by then, everything wasn’t flowing. By the time we got into T side we were on the same page.
Both teams won the half they were on the T side, quite a surprising outcome for a game on train – do you have any thoughts on why that is? Pretty much with widescreen TFTs, AK is about fifty times better than the m4a1, and it’s much easier to just run out and make the frags on the T side. If everyone was playing on CRTs it would be a different story. You’ve won your third big UK event in a row (after i33 and i34), and once again you’ve done it with little or no recent practise, are egos soaring?
Errr, kind of, obviously we don’t think we’re miles above everyone else, but when we can sit in a room six hours a day for five weeks (in Los Angeles) there’s not much you can do to improve on that. The next CGS season is a long way away, I’m sure you’re not even thinking about the draft yet. Do you have any plans for future events other than the I-Series?
Well, we’re pretty much looking at any tournament that has around a five grand first place, the majority of them anyway. You’ve mentioned that the bootcamp you had before the world finals has been a big help to you, do you think the gap between yourselves and teams like Reason can ever be closed while you remain a CGS team?
A lot of it is skill I think, as long as you’ve got good aim, and the teamplay is up to scratch. There’s a lot of good players that aren’t in CGS. Source is weird, you don’t have to have amazing tactics to do well, just teamplay and aim, so yeah, we can be challenged in the future.
All those rounds we lost, and we shouldn’t have, the last second plant they did, and stuff like that. But we had to play a second map anyway, so we were far from winning the whole event.
Both teams did far better on the T side of what is known to be a very CT biased map, would you agree with PT’s view that the monitors you used made an AK easier to use? It is possible, I didn’t really notice that. It’s maybe because the venue is a bit noisy, so it’s harder to hear terrorists pushing. You’ve faced Birmingham Salvo at i34 in the final, and now in this final, are you coming back for revenge at i35?
Yeah, I hope so. They’re always nice opponents, I’m happy we gave them a close game. I hope we will beat them at i35.
