Dignitas have won the CoD4 tournament in great style, knocking Reason down. I managed to catch up with one of the top fraggers and play makers of the Dignitas team, Raz.
Raz definitely had a great game, topping the scoreboard and really taking out the Reason defence. He told me a few things about how the game went.
Welcome Raz, firstly the final, well done. But how do you think it went?
I think it went very well, I wouldn’t say as planned, as we were expecting to lose Crossfire, we had played one game before the LAN, so we weren’t very comfortable playing Reason on it as they were very strong on it.
We all knew Reason had prepared their tactics a lot, very well in fact. Did this annoy you slightly? I know one of the first things I saw in the game was BlackMane shouting “HAHAHAH GEEKS” as he got naded in an absurd position.
Grenade wise, they were very tactical, constantly lining up set nades. At one point, at 6-2 down, at least 3 players per round were getting naded!
At 6-2 down, did you think it was all over?
Because we were 6-2 down, we knew Reason were weaker on defence, as they chose that. So we kept the motivation going, encouraging the team on. The motivation never dropped through the game.
At 6-2 you changed the snipers round, so Soclon started sniping and BlackMane started using the AK47. Did this make much of a difference?
Danny has played a lot of crossfire throughout the summer LANs. He knew how rzE played, and he was able to hold him back and not let him get entry kills. BM knew how to play Ak too as he used to play that on Crossfire when I used to snipe.
Did you do anything different at 6-2 down to suddenly turn it around?
We switched our whole play style around. We thought that by sitting back they would have to come to us and we could get the kills, but it just didn’t work. So we started playing more aggressively which seemed to work. They didn’t adjust to us either.
What about as attack? What did you play to do on that?
We weren’t sure what to do what to do as attack, never really worked it out. MYM had a different playing style for that map as attack to what Dignitas did, so we tried to mix it up as we were playing.
Raijeki was definitely known for his aggressive play, did you try to do much to neutralise him out of the picture?
We knew Raijeki was going to be aggressive, and with lots of baiting around the wall nading him we were able to keep him down.
kAMMYZ was also tipped by TosspoT to be a very powerful force in the game. He definitely thought the 30 bomb was on. It looked like he was well on his way to get that, but what did you do to stop him destroying your team later on into the game?
We tried to use our smokes more effectively. Where ever we were rushing he was able to just pick us off before. So when we switched that around he wasn’t really that affective.
Now I’d like you to be honest with me, did you win the game or did Reason lose it?
Reason lost it, through doing too much of the same thing on attack. Once they got 6 rounds, they got it in their head that what they were doing was working and they were just unlucky we were killing them. But when we switched it up their tactic didn’t work.
If the match had gone to Strike do you think you could have taken it? I know Reason were also confident on that map as they had beaten you before on it at previous LANs.
We were still very confident, as this is a different line up, but our play style is fairly similar, but we have more individual talent, so areas are stronger than before.
Thanks Raz, and enjoy your winnings
