Finland and Belgium will meet tonight at
20.00 CET. With multiple types of coverage ready to offer you visual and audio commentary, the match is coming closer with the minute. While the teams are preparing we're talking with some well known players from the scene about their predictions for the match.
First of all .:DCSB:. Mole shared his thoughts with us. I asked him on which team he'd put his money.
"I'd have to put my money on Finland. Belgium is a good team, but Finland is a lot stronger. I can't see it going into any extra time or anything. The Belgians will have a hard game on their hands. Though we have seen that they are a side capable of upset so maybe they will manage it again, but I just can't see it happening.”
What could make the difference for Belgium?
"If Skinnie and Arnold are on their game they could cause FI some real trouble. They are both decent scouts and play together week in week out with Druidz, as does most of the BE team. If they can really work well as a unit tonight then they might have a chance.
The scouts will have to do a good job of locking Hymzi out of the game, which is not an easy thing to do.
Though Well is one of those maps where the under-dog can really shine. If BE could hold there and play defensively then a well timed push back could give them a few caps. If you look back there has been some good results for the teams expected to lose, TLR beat 4Kings on Well, and I know DCSB had some good results on Well against teams that were expected to batter us.”
If they'd manage to take well, do you think Turbine would offer opportunities? We know that BE will not play with 2 soldiers on Turbine. What would be your final prediction?
"Nah I cant see them managing to win turbine. FI have the power that I think they are capable of just out-fragging BE. My final word is; FI to win all three, with a possible surprise in BE's favour on Well. If thats the case then FI would again be too strong on Pro Granary for BE.”
After this I had a conversation with
Mousetek`F2, well known from the largest European pick-up channel and his TF2 Gossip site.
F2, everyone thinks Finland is by far superior in this match, although Belgium managed to take down the UK quite impressive in the semi-finals. What do you think about this?
"The main reason UK lost to Belgium was because Byte and Stealthy weren't playing. So now we are in this situation where Belgium is in the final. Belgium obviously isn't a bad team but Finland is gonna win. The question is if Belgium can take a map or two."
”They might be able to take cp_well because of better tactics.”
The first maps will probably set the tone of the match. What do you expect to happen on these maps, any special tactics or class choices?
"I'm guessing Finland will win badlands (especially when they have hymzi... badlands is a real demoman map) - the only reason they wouldn't win could be if Belgium runs a Heavy which can be a bit of a surprise. But if Finland counters it properly there should be no problem. In ETF2L Druidz drew cp_well against prior (and prior is known to be really tough to beat on well). And since there are 5-6 members from Druidz in their line-up, they might be able to take cp_well because of better tactics. ”
If the match turns out to become a 5-mapper, would this be in advantage for Belgium, or do you think Finland is stronger in the last maps?
"Turbine is impossible to predict. I'm guessing Belgium will run a heavy on it and that can sometimes be tough to play against when you're not used to it. I have a gut feeling saying that Belgium will win either cp_well or turbine. Not sure what to say about granary. This is a very straight-forward map and it could be close, but Belgium could also be raped. Anyway, I'm guessing 3-1 to Finland.”
Third I sat down with TCM|Alberyayo to talk about the match. Let's see what he had to say:
"Finland are definitely the favourites in this one, with the guys from 4k, Moose, agron and Punpu they have a very decent line up indeed. But the glebs defeating UK last week really surprised me, so nothing is decided yet. I think this could be a very open game.”
”I think this could be a very open game.”
On which maps do you think that BE can take points and why?
"I think Belgium should really try and beat them on Badlands, Well and Granary, because on the other two the Fins are really good. If they lose one of those maps, it's going be really hard to make a successful comeback.”
What makes Finland so strong on Turbine and Gravelpit, in your opinion? What players do you think to be the most important for BE and FIN tonight?
"Their teamplay and experience on these maps. Coordination on those maps is really the key, and I think they're pretty much the best nation on these two maps. Even [4K^Mick] fears them on Gravelpit.”
”Even [4K^Mick] fears them on Gravelpit”
"For finland it will be hymzi who is just immense and a half plus he has no real weakness. They are all experienced division 1 players. As for Belgium; they will have to count on the hours made by the players from Druidz.”
Last but not least I dropped by Übersexuals ;) dunc. It's clear that Finland is the overall favourite for the game. Do you agree with this? Why or why not?
"Yeah I definitely agree with that. Finland are arguably the strongest national team in Europe at the moment and knocking the second strongest team (Sweden) out in the Semis went some way to proving that. Belgium are a very tight team with some quality teamwork but I feel their players lack the individual strength to topple a quality Finnish side.”
Looking at the maps, what score do you expect? The others predicted a tight and/or surprising game on cp_well. What are your thoughts about this?
"Badlands will definitely be Belgium's best map with Skinnie and Arnold being an incredibly strong pairing. Knowing that Moose doesn't rate Badlands as a strong map for cc, I would imagine it isn't one of Finland's best maps either. If Belgium are going to challenge Finland on any map, it'll be Badlands."
"It's difficult for me personally to gauge Well as I've never seen either team play it. I've never even seen the original Vale team [which is effectively Team Belgium] play Well, or either k1ck or cc [the two teams making up the majority of Team Finland's lineup]. I still think it'll be quite comfortable for Finland though - a 3-1 win on Well wouldn't surprise me. Another thing to bear in mind is that Well generally isn't as high scoring as the other maps.”
”Badlands will definitely be Belgium's best map”
"I would expect Finland to annihilate Belgium on Pro Gran. I think they'll win comfortable on Turbine too, though I know Moose says Turbine isn't one of their best maps. If it goes to Gravelpit, Belgium has not got a chance.”
You talked about Skinnie and Arnold, Belgium's scout duo. Do you think they are capable of taking down hymzi? He is by many considered to be the main power of team Finland. What would happen if BE will focus on taking him down?
"Hymzi is a fantastic player. If you ask most D1 players, they will say that Hymzi is cc's biggest strength and biggest weakness. This isn't necessarily the case for Finland because you have 6 of the best players in Europe playing in the same team. Hymzi is an incredibly aggressive demoman which I think will wreak havoc against Belgium's heavy classes.. but the reason I say he can be a weakness is because his aggression can make him very vulnerable. I think Arnold and Skinnie are the perfect duo to take Hymzi down.. but I just don't think it'll be enough for Belgium to win the game.”
"If Hymzi is supported by Finland's scouts, and all three are on form, Belgium simply won't have a chance. I think Hymzi will be significantly less effective on Well where his aggression is less useful, but it'll be very difficult for Belgium to dominate the middle before those gates open.”
Big thanks to Mole, F2, Alberyayo and dunc for sharing your predictions with us. Make sure you tune in tonight @ 20.00 CET and don't miss the game.
