EC XVIII: Week 5
@ ClanBase EuroCup XVIII channel

The last week of the groupstages is upon us in what used to be described as the most prestigious online tournament ever. Opinions are slightly more varied on this now, but I am sure emotions will still be high amongst those who don't manage to make it through. This week could be crucial to see just who those are, and who we will be seeing in the playoffs.

This weeks map is Strike which is considered a balanced map, which tends to favour defense a little bit. Most team have stratted a lot on this however, so it should not come as a suprise if we see some teams taking a dominant lead while on the attacking side. Though, if a team is allowed to lock it down at defense, the other team will be in for a hard match which will not do them any favours.

Group A - Table
Clan Details P W L D DIFF POINTS
CrackClan 4 3 0 1 +24 10
Reason-Gaming 4 3 1 0 +8 9
Team-Logitech 3 1 1 1 -6 4
Sypher 3 1 2 0 -7 3
zeroHero 4 0 4 0 -19 0
Serious-Gaming - - - - - -

Pre Match Week: This week has UK side sypher taking on the finnish guys of Logitech.fi, which could be a close game, and a is a vital one for both. If any of the teams win, and Reason Gaming loses versus ZeroHero, they might go through to the playoffs (for sypher it will depend on the round differential). The other match features Reason Gaming and zerohero. Since zerohero have been losing all their games until now, I cannot really see them winning versus Reason, who have been playing consistent over the last few weeks. Could be tense for all involved.

Post Games: Reason has managed to get a no show over the european side of zerohero and have thus managed to qualify themselves for the playoffs together with CrackClan. Sypher vs Logitech.fi has not been played yet, but the result does not matter any more as none of the teams will be able to overcome Reason in points.

Clan Details P W L D DIFF POINTS
Button-Bashers 5 3 1 1 +1 10
We were immortal 4 3 1 0 +13 9
KomaCrew 4 1 1 2 +7 5
Copenhagen-eSports 5 1 2 2 -6 5
UF Gaming 4 1 2 1 -11 4
oXmoze 4 1 3 0 -4 3

Pre Match Week: This could be a tense week for the teams participating in this group. All of the teams are very close with in terms off points and all them thus have a shot at reason the playoffs at this moment We got Copenhagen taking on the Czech side of "we were immortal" a match I predict will go the way of we were immortal, showing some great matches lately, and Copenhagen slacking a bit. Button Bashers vs UF Gaming should be a walkover for the Dutch side, as they are looking invincible at the moment with by taking win after win lately. Although if they won't try (since most teams don't really care for EC anymore) it could open up some possibilities for UF. Last match is oXmose taking on Komacrew, the bottomplacer versus the number 1 in the group. In theory this should go to KomaCrew, but everything can happen so we will just have to wait and see.

Post Games: Button Bashers beat UF Gaming and now sit on 7 points. We were immortal beat Copenhagen in a convincing way and are sitting at 9 points at the moment, which will probably be enough to qualify for the playoffs. KomaCrew vs oXmose has not been played yet, but we will keep you updated.

UPDATE:The match between UF and WWI still has not been played which is according to the ClanBase site due one of the UF members selling his pc and thus not being able to play. According to WWI they have not responded to any IRC query and any PM send to them, so WWI will push for a forfeit win.

Group C - Matches

Group C - Tables
Clan Details P W L D DIFF POINTS
nEph 3 3 0 0 +20 9
Speed-Link 3 2 1 0 +2 6
lastshow 3 1 2 0 -8 3
Wizard 3 0 3 0 -14 0
MEGAZORDS - - - - - -
B'Buddies - - - - - -

Pre Match Week: This group features only one match this week, having 2 of its participants drop out. lastshow versus the German side SPEED-LINK. SPEED-LINK have been playing well lately getting some good online results, but recently underperformed at MaxLan in France. I would still clearly favour the Germans over the Portuguese side, but their confidence might have taken a hit after their disappointing LAN performance.

Post Games: It seems that the bad performance at MaxLan has not influenced the German that big. They took down lastshow 13-9, a score which I would call rather unconvincing. This means that Neophyte has qualified for the playoffs, and the same will probably count for SPEED-LINK, but the case around SPEED-LINK vs Wizards has not been solved yet, so I can't assure you 100%

UPDATE: SPEED-LINK has received a no-show win over Wizards with Wizards stating they could not make the forced time due university and work obligations. This means SPEED-LINK and Neophyte have both qualified for the playoffs of this Eurocup.

Group D - Matches

Group D - Tables
Clan Details P W L D DIFF POINTS
D-Link PGS 4 2 1 1 +8 7
Epsilon 4 2 1 1 +5 7
Viciouos and Evil 4 2 1 1 - 7
Team Impact 4 2 2 0 -5 6
eSuba 4 0 3 1 -8 1
Team Infused - - - - - -

Pre Match Week: This week sees D-Link PGS taking on VAE, a match for the first place in the group. Should be a very close match in which I would favour the Polish side a little bit, but as said, this could be a very close match. Other match in the group is Esuba versus Team Impact. It seems Esuba have a few internal problems, with for example mazarini playing for Neophyte at MaxLan. If they show up and get their teamwork together, they will probably walk over Impact, but Impact are ranked higher in the groups so they should not be counted out.

Post Games: As said in the preview, the match between D-Link PGS and VAE was close, a draw infact. Both teams thus moving 1 point further from the remaining teams. Although both Epsilon and Team Impact still have a chance to qualify themselves as they have not played all their remaining matches. The other match in the group turned out to be a noshow win for Impact. It seems as Esuba have fallen apart and are no longer a team, but nothing has been officially released on the matter so we will just have to wait.
