The EMS Qualifiers are over! We missed a bit of the coverage as it fell directly on the i35 weekend, but we have the details of all the actual CoD4 games inside.
So far it has just been a matter of getting teams into the competition itself! Now is where we can expect to find some fierce fighting, and money is actually on offer. Your first thoughts from seeing the tree will be questioning ones. No I have not got it wrong, there are only 21 teams in a 32 Team Double Elim bracket. Though I have not confirmed this, I am pretty sure it is down to a lot of teams dropping out, and I can name quite a few that have (most noticably Fnatic due to splitting up). The table though does look quite good,
with some interesting matches taking place. LowLandLions are technically still in this tournament but we have heard that they are definitely on the verge of breaking up.
As for who will make it a long way in the tournament? I really don't want to have to predict this as with CoD5 out very soon we can expect a lot of turmoil in the CoD scene. However, I have predicted the scores, and you can see them all by rolling your mouse over the map name, with the first score being the team on top and the second the team below it. The first matches start soon, so we will keep this updated as we go. I will also make sure to post (below) the article any major upsets that happen. So if you want to know how the top teams in Europe are doing in this years ESL Major Series, then stay tuned to Cadred!
Most Match Updates
5th December - A few more matches have been played by now, which can all be found in the brackets, with 2 more or less surprising matches. Bioxar.COD4 beating CrackClan will probably be a shock to a lot of people, as Bioxar are relatively unknown in the scene, and the score was nailbiting close as well, 13-11. Other match which could open a few mouths is Tempus Moriendi beating We Were Immortal with a 13-9 score. Upcoming matches will be exciting so keep a watch on this article for updates once again!
28th November - Still not many games being planned Rewind/BioXar have advanced in the lower bracket beating KomaCrew in a close game on mp_crossfire. ButtonBashers played Epsilon beating them 13:8 and this left them playing Dignitas in the upper bracket semi-final. This game went as expected with a 13:8 win to Dignitas. This guarantees Dignitas a place in the final and leaves ButtonBashers to face the team advancing from the lower bracket. This looks like it will probably be either Reason or Esuba.
25th November - The EMS matches have slowed down a lot, with not many matches being played at the moment. However, there have been a few. CrackClan have been knocked down to the lowerbracket after no showing against Epsilon. These leaves them with Veritas as their next opponents, a side which have been playing a lot, but shouldn't cause them any problem (provided they turn up). This also leaves ButtonBashers with Epsilon as their next opponent, again, a team that could cause problems, but most likely won't.
20th November - There have been a lot of matches played in 2 days, however there have not been that many upsets really. Dignitas are storming ahead, already at the UpperBracket final, and guaranteed at least a 3rd place finish. This sent Koma Crew and eSuba down to the LowerBracket. Koma Crew will be disappointed, as they took Dignitas to overtime, in a very close game. They should be able to make their way through the lowerbracket and will probably play overGame next.
18th November - The first big game of the EMS has been played, Reason vs ButtonBashers, and it has ended in a very convincing win for ButtonBashers. Is this Reason not as good as expected or ButtonBashers just that much better? I think a bit of both. Reason should still be able to push their way through the lower bracket quite convincly though.
As for the rest of the lowerbracket, MiDR have definitely stopped playing as they went out of the competition, as did LowLandLions who didn't play their game. Reason are still on shape to make their way through the group, and will probably have a game against We Were Immortal in the next round, a game which could be interesting as they have recently lost to them in the EC playoffs.
17th November - Reason and Crack have both got through to the next round, to set up a very interesting round 3, where Reason are going to take on ButtonBashers, a game I expect to be very close. If Epsilon beat oN3 then that could setup a good game between them and Crack. The other big upset is LowLandLions, who have No Showed their game. This wasn't unexpected though, as they have said they were going inactive. I think everyone just hoped they would take part. Obviously not.
14th November - Both ButtonBashers and Dignitas, the two favourites have breezed past all opposition and are now in the 3rd Round of the UpperBracket. Dignitas were able to beat Bioxor 13-7 - (my prediction was (13-7!). ButtonBashers had no problems either. Finally KomaCrew were able to beat We Were Immortal and send them down to the lower bracket.
13th November - The final match of the first round has been played, and it was a default win to oN3 beating MiDR (ex 4Kings). The reason for this default is unknown, but this is what was said on the match itself. Quote taken from Goodwin:
f***0ff stop sending me emails, play cod2, not cod4 we take default losses in the rest of our games, cy@
This will see the last of MiDR in the EMS, and their time in the EPS looks shaky too as they have a lot of outstanding matches to be played. However in the EMS, the next round is going to happen next week, and there could be some interesting matches. Lets just wait and see.
11th Novemeber - Not all the matches have been played yet, but out of those that have there have been no upsets. Most noticably CrackClan made it past Quad. Impact also sent ThermalTake down as did Bio to Attractive. The rest of the games should be played some point this week hopefully.
10th November - As you can see a lot of teams have got Bys through to the next round, and all of those teams we would have definitely expected to see in the next round anyway. We will see who they will be up against tomorrow night, once all the games have been played.
