We are going to be having a series of interviews here on Cadred with some of the stars in the CoD4 scene. OZWALD is definitely one of them, being one of the most well known players around. I managed to have a long chat with him.

OZWALD, now playing for CrackClan has had a past riddled with success, and has played for some big teams, most noticeably Tek9. After a disappointing finish at MaxLan we managed to have a brief chat with him, and see just what he thought of all the going ons in the CoD4 scene.

Ozwald, you are known a lot in the Cod scene, but do you think you could let our users know who you are to our readers

I'm Antonin Grenier, im 21 years old & still living in Paris. Used to play for tek9 but I'm in crack atm

Right Call of Duty, it is a game that has been criticised quite a bit, what is it about the game that drives you to play it?

I used to enjoy playing cod1 & 2, but to be honest the only reason i'm playing cod4 atm is because of the lans. That means that if cod4 wont get new tournaments after gamerland I wont be playing the game anymore.

What is it about cod4 you do not like?

The sprinting, the cocknades, the non-existence of rifles... Also most of the maps are ridiculously small, you can nade the opponents spawn after 5 seconds... I could go on...

Probably because most of the people are like me, they go where there's money, regardless of how awful a game is...

People say that the game is a good game to watch, do you think this is why they have thrown so much money at the game?

I have no idea how you decide a game is ''good to watch'' so i cant really answer your question. All I know is that I personally don't like the game, now I see no reason why some people would like it, and I respect it, just wanted to make things clear. This being said, I know that AEF & TeX put so much money in cod4 because they always worked with the community, and at that time cod4 was the game people were playing.

So apart from the money is there anything that actually keeps you playing CoD4?

Well i'm always looking forward to meeting the people i speak to online, at least some of em :). I also like the competition obviously...

If you weren't playing CoD what would you be playing? If anything at all?

Nothing more than i'm currently doing now, cod has been taking less & less time in my life over the past few months. I don't spend much time playing the game anymore. oh... playing. I read doing. Doubt i'd be playing anything else i guess. Probably CS 1.6 for the fun

Right lets move onto your team a bit more. Could you give us a brief description of some of the guys you play with in Crack Clan, and also let us know why you all moved to CrackClan in the first place.

Well atm we are 4, as woken quit playing cod a while ago. So we got me, team leading, tigii sniping and xander together with rukkae who are more of allrounders. We moved to crack as they offered good support and they haven't let us down so far

Yea we are looking for a 5th. Still discussing who would fit in the best, both in game and out of the game.

How would you rate your team performance at MaxLan? you were the top seed playing on "home" soil but you were still not able to win the competition.

Ye the lan has been a huge disappointment for us all. We lost to zellion on our way to the final, a game we shouldn't have lost. Don't know what happened, I guess they were better on backlot. Unfortunately it was single elimination. Only one map. But still, we should have won it anyway.

In hind site do you think you should have come to i35 instead?

Well personally, maxlan couldn't have been worse for me. We rented screen, 17 inches CRT but they wouldn't work on my PC because of the VGA to DVI adaptor. But before finding out that, I don't know how, but i managed to mess up my PC. In the end i had to format and play on an awful TFT 20ms screen.
So ye i wonder if we shouldn't have come to i35 instead lol...

Will you be attending any of the big events this side of christmas? CC5 or GameLand?

Ye we'll be attending gamerland, this is our main objective atm. We wont be attending CC5 though.

How do you view your chances of winning the event?

Depends on who is going, but if we manage to play on normal conditions, I say we can do it. Now if were actually going to win the event? Its impossible to say, even roulette is less random than cod4

And what after that; how do you view the future of CoD4?

I cant see myself still playing the game after the gamerland lan. Unless they announce something big i'll definitely stop playing cod4, and probably gaming at the same time.

Are you definitely not moving onto Cod5 then? Have you ever played the game?

I haven't tried the game no, and I'm not going to try it. Just too lazy, and from I've heard its not even worth it. I'll see how it goes after gamerland i guess

The game has had a lot of criticism, and people have talked about sticking with CoD4 or even going back to CoD2! Do you think this is the right move to make? If so which one, back to CoD2 or do you think the community should stick with CoD4

Well i would obviously go back to cod2 as, as you've noticed, I'm not a big fan of cod4. The community will go to where there's money and competition, but the community will also decide which game will have the more money and competition. In the end its up to the players, if they want to make the effort to come back to cod2, they will go ask for the support of the few tournaments that have supported call of duty those past few years. Such as tek9 with the AEF, roskilde with the experience, crossfire.nu with the CC series and probably multiplay with i series

I personally think that a move back to CoD2 would not be the best of things, as sponsors will be less likely to put money in. Could this be the end of the Call of Duty Series as we know it?

That'd be one of the options yea. But in my eyes, people will stick to cod4 for the time being... Unless cod5 changes dramatically, but I'm not the best one to talk about that
