The double week is over and we find ourselves at the start of the final leg towards finishing the first German EPS season. Intersting results ensued and most importantly, the top of the leader board reads a new name after both choZen and TBH.MSI had their clash. Both teams only face relatively easy and straightforward match-ups from now on, so the battle for the first two play-off spots seems to have been fought already. However, as is tradition in the EPS for quite some time, the best four advance on to the play-off stage, and the way the board stands right now, 4 teams still have very good odds of making one of two spots behind both TBH.MSI and choZen respectively.
Due to personal issues, this coverage is put online a bit late and the majority of Week 11's matches have already been played with one remarkable and unexpected turn of events in the otherwise expected boring matches between strong and weak teams. EnRo Griffins managed to lose focus in their match versus n!faculty and the considered third best team in Germany lost valuable points this close to the finals. I managed to catch Richard "HornYz" Horn for some small questions concerning this draw:
-EnRo Griffins are currently still third in the rankings, but have lost really valuable points versus n!faculty. What went wrong in this match for you guys?
Well tbh, this was not the first match we lost some very important points. The matches vs xplosionz and n! were safe points and we just f...failed. I think some of our side underestimated them, which lead to such unacceptable gameplay.
-Do you feel the problem was mp_citystreets or were you just at the short end of the fuse tonight and the map would not have made all that much of a difference?
Well citystreets is a very interesting map, but definitely not the excuse for our point loss. We are playing really important cups right now and maybe forgot to focus on the EPS, our "major" league.
-With prediction and RAPTOR-GAMING. still on your to-do list, are you confident you will end up in the top 4 and what are your plans in order to reach that goal?
We showed very often that we can beat these teams quite easily. Our primary goal was to finish the EPS at least as TOP 3 team. Can´t tell if we are going to win the playoffs. TBH.MSI, is clearly the strongest team right now, but we lost versus them in a very close match, the same for the KC match, where the score was 14-14 and we lost both rounds. We realize our problems and we are trying everything to fix them very fast, as we know that prediction is practicing a lot, sometimes we can even see them at 13:00 playing. RAPTOR-GAMING. are just a good PAM4 Team, and we will take revenge for the EPS Qualification :P
-How motivated are you yourself and the rest of your team still with 4 matches left before the end of the EPS? Will we be seeing you at one of the European summer LANs?
We are really motivated to win these last matches, we need to win each match to have a safe spot for the EPS Playoffs, as we already wasted too many points in the past. During the Summer, we will attend 2 offline events: UKESA Finals in London, and the "Outpost on Fire 3" (already paid). Would have loved to travel to the The-eXperience LAN in Denmark, but we cannot afford it.
On another note, there is one match that has been moved up from Week 10, that still needs playing
If xplosionZ still want to avoid being relegated down to the EAS automatically after the first season, they need to start gathering points right now and in this derby of the low-ranked teams, they will have the perfect opportunity to put on a show and move away from the bottom two spots. diamondZ e.V. have not impressed at all during the later stages of the EPS and they need to be careful of losing out tomorrow.
If xplosionZ loses to diamondZ e.V. the match versus Skyraider will be of crucial importance to either of them, even though they will still find themselves in a pickle, both filling up the bottom two positions of the German EPS leader board currently. The match of the week is undoubtedly Competo versus RAPTOR-GAMING. as whoever wins on Sunday will manage to take an important step, as well as the needed three points, towards reaching one of the select few play-off spots. Competo is a team full of experienced German players and the RAPTOR-GAMING. team is its complete mirror image, filled with young and fresh talents and who have been on a run for quite some time now, performing above expectations. I am, however, expecting RAPTOR-GAMING. to bring their A game and surprise the experienced players of Competo to take the win here. I asked one player out of each team for a small statement about their match-up this week.
Torsten "dmnzn" Prix had the following to say:
" Welcome to match day 11, this Saturday we will meet COMPETO.ZYKON Systems. We've already played some matches versus this team on different maps and we know their strengths, during most of our PCWs we were being beaten by COMPETO - but as this is an EPS Match, not just a PCW, we are not completely sure how they'll play & act. This Lineup is formed by players who were in many top teams before. We didn't have so much time to train, but we know, on mp_citystreets everything is possible. We already played 2 matches on it and won both - so citystreets isn't our worst map. I hope for a strong match - the winner will be RAPTOR-GAMING."Kevin "lopezz" Münder had this to say about the match:
" The 11th Match day in the EPS season may be one of our most important ones. Our opponent RAPTOR-GAMING is fighting for the playoffs as are we and are just 1 spot behind us. Rank 5 against rank 6 promises a tense match and will decide the 4th Playoff slot. We are well prepared and hope we will get this next important win."
