May's Top10 TF2 Teams
@ Spotlights channel

Here are Cadred's monthly TF2 rankings from May.

With most of the big online leagues running again, May has certainly been a more active month in the TF2 scene than April was. However, Summer is what we are all looking forward to with the upcoming UKeSA LAN finals in June and the Community LAN in July.

The points system remains simple: a first place vote earns that team 10 points, 9 points are awarded for second place, and so on. We also add the points from the previous month to this months votes to make the ranking a bit more stable.

On page two you can read who the panel members are, and see their thoughts and opinions on this month's rankings

Juho "Moose" Pättö

Juho has worked for Cadred as TF2 editor since Spring 2008. He's the only man still remaining from Cadred's original TF2 team.

He plays in one of the top teams, Crack Clan, and is also the captain of Team Finland, the ETF2L Nations Cup champions. He is constantly following the events in the TF2 scene and is very well aware of the balance of power between the best teams.

" Things are finally getting interesting again. In my books Dignitas are still number one even though they had a less than a perfect month. But on the other hand all their closest rivals had their share of upsets as well. Crack Clan is looking strong in the ED league, topping the boards without any map losses. In ETF2L their start has been less stellar and they lost to TCM and tied against YoYoTech in the first games of season 5. However, CC won both of these teams in ED during May so they still hold on to their second place.

TCM (former Trademark Gamers) had a pretty good month, they will be a tough team to beat at LANs. 4Kings on the hand had pretty much an awful month. I was fully expecting YoYoTech to top them in the rankings but this proved out not to be the case.

It was a small surprise to see coolclan (wotr2) placed seventh above clan00. I'm not entirely sure why, but it is true that clan00 has had their share of difficulties recently. It looks like their once solid team play has grumbled with the new international additions to the line-up. The Imperial fully deserved their sixth spot and if they keep this pace up top5 won't be very far away for them. "

Luís "Coinz" Moedas

Luís is our newest addition to the panelists.

He is an old-school Team Fortress player with vast experience from QWTF and ETF. Currently Luís plays in Team YoYoTech.

" This month shows how even it is between the top4 teams with Dignitas above the other 3 but any result can happen. For example CC lost against TCM and drew against YoYoTech for ETF2L but then had a win against YoYoTech and drew against Dignitas in EnemyDown. Then on the other hand YoYoTech won against TCM in the same league. It just shows how close it is at the top.

There were also some changes in the scene with TCM picking ex-TmG team and 4Kings picking ex-WotR team. Good luck to them in their new homes."

Matt “Mole” Ashton

Matt is a former ETF2L admin and he was also the man behind the ETF2L Radio. He recently did a step back and placed his focus back on his own team.

Playing in a division 2 clan, Dead Cows Strike Back, Matt also has an hefty amount of in-game experience. The team recently got picked up by Envision Gaming and has great potential and ambition.

" The top 5 pick themselves again as the leading pack, although YoYoTech is on a march and really challenging the top teams now. Maybe Ubersexuals recent move to TCM will help drive them to stay in the top 3 because if not they want to be looking over their shoulder!

Imperial, Coolclan, and 00 could go in any order on their day with each taking maps and wins from each other in officials this month and maybe thats the battle to watch out for next month. Although it’s a shame 00 are looking more like a mix team these days than the efficient German side with great teamwork that they previously were. Lets hope this “new” team can start to gel because they have the squad and players to be pretty strong, but it isn’t showing in game where it matters.

Lower down is harder to pick now. By default of top teams folding we are seeing new teams joining the top 10, but who that should be is yet to be seen. idk have stepped up their game and are regularly playing top teams, and are improving for it earning deserve the 9th spot. 10th could have been one of many but I chose FB plainly because they are lucky enough to be playing in the top division. I'm sure the pickup of Byte will improve them alot but they are yet to convert that into results. Illegal could have had the 10th spot too but as they haven't been playing officials against top10 teams I can't justify putting them there yet when the rest of my ratings are based on officials."

Anders "F2" Carstensen

Anders is running the popular news portal TF2 Gossip. Besides this, he's also the main admin and developer for several TF2 pickup channels and bots.

He currently plays for the division 2 team I Don't Know?

" May had some exciting and surprising results. Everyone in the top seemed to be beating or tieing each other at random. Last month CC were a clear 2nd and TCM (wotr) were a clear 3rd. This month it is not clear at all. For me it is really difficult determining the top4. dignitas have shown some weakness against CC and yoyo. But when dignitas play an official I would still say they would be favourite to win regardless of opponent. However, when it comes to CC, yoyo and TCM it seems that anything can happen.

CC beat yoyo who beat TCM who beat CC! So who is best...? Well, there has been some interesting losses. wotr2 managed to tie a map against CC in ED, and tied the match against YYT in the same league. And Imperial managed to win badlands over CC in EMS. I think YoYoTech has been the most surprising team in May. They have always been a great team, but now they're really breaking into the absolute top. So I kinda want to put them second but I will put them third for now. Maybe next month they'll be second if they keep delivering impressive results.

For the second place I have once again chosen Crack! Clan. Even though they have had some shaky results in May, they are still the clan that is closest to knocking dignitas off the first place. TCM unfortunately ends on a 4th place even though they beat CC (but to be fair it was only on one map, turbine). So it's a bit messed up at the moment, but hopefully in June the top4 will become clearer. "

Miku "perry" Airaksinen

Making a special guest appearance in the panel this month is no other than Miku "perry" Airaksinen from clan00.

"After Dignitas recruited AppZ to replace Masiina, I believe Crack Clan will take number one spot in Europe. TCM has also been doing quite well recently beating both 4K and Crack Clan in ETF2L. YoyoTech have just been getting better and better and I believe they'll get quite far, but currently I'd say they are fourth.

4Kings have had some member issues, with torden going inactive they have been playing with different medics for a while now which has clearly affected their team play. The Imperial and clan00 are both pretty even in skill, however I ranked imperial above 00, as they have beaten the German based team for the last three times or so, although narrowly.

I believe coolclan, idk? and illegal are all pretty even in skill right now, but I decided to rank coolclan #8, idk? #9, illegal #10."

Hidde "Amonsilas" van Manen

Hidde is the second active TF2 editor in the Cadred team. He is also part of the ETF2L admin team as Coverage Supersivor and general league admin.

After organising and hosting the TF2 tournament on the Dutch LAN "The Reality VIII" in March, Hidde currently is working to organize the TF2 Community LAN in July.

" This month gives me some trouble, since there are so few official results to use. I would still rank Team Dignitas on top of the list, simply because they are still the best until it is proved otherwise. Crack Clan managed to beat them on one map in Enemy Down, but Dignitas took the other. Besides that, there are no bad results. Crack Clan does not seem to have had a good month, besides their draw against Dignitas. They lost points to both Team Coolermaster (former Trademark Gamers) and Team YoYoTech in ETF2L. In addition they drew to maps in ED, one to YoYoTech (again) and one to coolclan (former Weapons of the Rebellion 2). Team Coolermaster on the other hand made a good start of the season in ETF2L, but in ED they lost two maps versus Dignitas - making them a strong third on my list.

In the sub-top I praise Team YoYoTech for delivering some strong results last month. They took points from the better clans and played strong against the weaker. It helps that their biggest competitors, Four Kings (former Weapons of the Rebellion) have barely played any official match at all. Coolclan played strong, taking points from YoYoTech and Crack Clan in ED. In ETF2L they haven't played any matches yet.

On the bottom we got clan00 drawing The Imperial and Imperial winning from FakkelBrigade. I dont know? drew coolclan, which is good and is not giving away anything yet in division 2 in ETF2L.”
