The Group Stages for the WCG 1.6 Tournament

The World Cyber Games 09 officially kicks off tomorrow with the opening ceremony, but the Counter-Strike tournament won't start before the 12.00 local time of Thursday. Thirty-seven teams from more than 30 different countries are split into eight groups of four or five teams, the top two teams of each group will qualify for the playoffs. As usual, the playoffs stage consists in a single elimination bracket with best-of-three matches.

Even if the prizemoney has been considerably reduced, the tournament still offers one of the biggest pot in the Counter-Strike scene, with $63,000 in cash and $17,500 worth of prizes.

Most of the greatest teams in the world are here to play for the championship, teams such as fnatic, mTw, Mousesports, ex-Vitriolic and many more, but in the groupstage we also find lot of teams from many different countries around the world, especially Asian and Australasian countries such as India, Pakistan, New Zealand, Singapore and others.

Matches from Groups A to D will be played on Thursday, while from Group E to H on Friday, from 12.00 to 19.00 local time (GMT+8). Don't miss out the show, some interesting matches are going to be played in this phase, especially in Group B and C.
