i38: GLG Versus fnatic Controversy
@ i38 Counter Strike: Source channel

It is fair to say that GLG decimating fnatic 16 - 2 was one of the shocks of an event that has thrown up some considerable surprises. However the matter took another strange turn when it appeared that the result was potentially about to be overturned.

While a jubilant GLG whooped and cheered like drunken baboons fnatic had noticed that one of their players had been using a forbidden DX Level in the competition.

Jack "Callisto" Mason had used the illegal command and in the rules laid out at the start of the tournament the admins said they would act against any players using it. A special server plug-in had been primed in anticipation of dealing with the issue that reveals each players DX level to all other competitors at the start of the game.

The GLG were already out celebrating a good day for them that saw them in the upper bracket semi-finals and were oblivious to the admins decision pending. The sat and reviewed the demo round by round looking to see if Callisto gained any advantage from having the command.

In the end it was resolved and the admins decision was the result should stand. After all was said and done a simple question was asked of team representative Milan "xertion" Veeger - Would it have affected the outcome were it not used? He had to admit that it would not and that was the basis for the admin's ruling.

Tournament supervisor Adam "Damage" Parkins explained the decision:

At the end of the game fnatic had checked the DX levels and found DX level 95 was used by one of the GLG players. Obviously that is something that he should have checked, but also it is something fnatic should have checked also and they did know how to check. I want to stress all fnatic wanted to do was check if it had affected the game in any way. They weren't looking for a default or anything like that. They were patient while we made our enquiries and watched the demo.
fnatic will now be playing Space Pandas to see who progresses to the next phase of the competition.
