i38: Post Final Interviews
@ i38 Modern Warfare 2 channel

We had a chat with both teams after the MW2 final at i38

The Modern Warfare 2 tournament finished last night with fnatic beating Team Dignitas over two maps to win the tournament. They had to come from the Lower Bracket so they needed two maps, and they did just that, taking both maps quite comfortably.

For the typical CoD fan, this probably wasn't the most exciting of games, and that is certainly how I saw it. Without the same tension in the game, that you get in a round by round tournament, it does become quite dull to watch.

But for the players, they seemed to really enjoy it. I went and had a chat with firstly the captain of the winning team, fnatic, namely KyoChi.

I'm here with KyoChi, the first ever winners of a Modern Warfare 2 tournament. That probably wasn't one of your best finals though.

Our best final, no, everything was just random. Noob tubes, riot shields.....

Was it fun playing in this final? Or did you try and take it quite seriously to try and come away with a win?

We came here to win, because we heard there was going to be a big prize fund, so that failed. We just took it as a laugh really, just played our game. We enjoyed playing CTF really, it was really fun, but it needs a lot of work that game to be competitive.

Are you quite disappointed that you came all of this way to play for what is basically £600. Has it been a waste of a weekend for you?

Na it has been a waste, because there has been so many delays, we played like 3 or 4 games. Maybe 5. There was too much waiting and a low prize fund. It's not been good.

fnatic were back on winning form at i38

You are going to carry on and play this at Dreamhack. Will that be any difference or just a bigger prize pot version of this?

Well, it's going to be S&D, for all I know. We are going to try and change that to CTF because the S&D maps are too big, and it can't be played. Obviously there is a big prize fund so we're going to be practicing hard for that. We will see after that if we continue with MW2.

Do you like MW2 as a game?

It's alright I guess, with some work it could be good. But now I can't see us playing it after Dreamhack.

Will you go back to CoD4 then or will you move on?

We haven't talked about that really. We wil see. We are all really tired of CoD4, the same maps, the same nades, everything so similar. We will see after MW2 what we are going to do?

Possibly a move back over to CS:S and become the 2nd fnatic Source team? 1.6?

Might head back to CS:S if everything else fails. That's a fun game, but just for fun. Been away for so long, so I don't know.

Congratulations on winning the final, anyone you want to thank before I let you go?

I just want to thank fnatic for taking us here. Neil for backing us up this weekend. Obviously MSI for the laptops otherwise we wouldn't be here. Steelseries and Pagefoot Networks. Thank you

They walked away with £600 and a bottle of Champagne.

Next I spoke to the new boy in dignitas, but by no means a new boy on the scene, of course the widely liked player that is nreo:

I'm here with nreo, the runners up to the first ever MW2 tournament. You did lose to fnatic, but did you enjoy the final?

Yeah it was good, I think it was a lot of fun, CTF is a lot of fun, so we thought why not, and just ran around having a good time really.

From a player point of view it sounds like you quite enjoying playing MW2 as a fun game, but from a spectator point of view that was horrific it was so boring. Do you think there is any chance that could take off as a game?

I don't see why not. The problem is mod tools. But it is in the same state as CoD4 was when that came out, exactly the same state, except it has got CTF. The weapons are similar, its really the same. But we just don't have that possibility of editing the game.

fnatic looked a lot stronger than they did earlier when you played them in the Upper Bracket Final. Had they been practicing in the spare time? Have you been doing any tactics etc at all? Or were they just better now.

I think they went through the maps, that's for sure. You could clearly see where they were going, they had routes. I don't think they had prepared, but maybe we should have, we didn't. We sort of just messed around and had a good time. I think they did prepare a few things, maybe not nades as such, but routes, knowing where to go and little sneaky spots.

Do you think the low prize fund was quite a big deterent for you to actually put in the hours to stand a good chance of winning this? Was there almost a sense of we're not going to walk away with very much money at all, so what's the point.

No, I wouldn't say that. It doesn't matter what the prize fund is, we play to win, we always play to win. It doesn't matter on the game, we do our best. So I wouldn't say that.

On more of a personal point to yourself, how are you finding your new lineup? You were in ButtonBashers over the summer, but are you enjoying playing under the dignitas tag?

Yeah I get along with the guys. I hung around with them during the summer, got to know them. I've known them for a long time now, nearly 2 years or so. It's relaxed, and a lot of fun.

Where is the future for the dignitas CoD team, does it stick with MW2 or if the community goes back to CoD4 will you follow it?

Well I think that we will follow where ever the community goes. I think there is no point in us taking a different direction. It depends on event organisers and what they decide to do. But we are happy to play either game.

Well thank you very much, and do you have any final shoutouts you would like to make?

To dignitas and all their sponsors, and to all of my friends online, they know who they are.

That brings us an end to the MW2 tournament at i38. Most people would agree that it hasn't been the biggest success, and expect a column from me looking at it in more detail, but for now we are signing out.
