Even though the competitive community has had little good to say about Modern Warfare 2, the game has continued to smash sales records on both console and, perhaps most surprisingly of all, PC.

After the news that the game would feature no dedicated servers, not allow any mods and even not have a developer console to tweak game elements, the competitive community had to suffer the indignity of the first ever tournament being a shambolic affair. Players seemed largely indifferent to the future of the game and many have vowed to continue to promote COD4 for future competitions.

However Infinity Ward's website proudly declared that "the PC version of Modern Warfare 2 has actually outsold the PC version of Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare in its first week, making it the most successful version."

The last part seems quite a conclusion to arrive at after the first week of sales, especially when you take into consideration that there is no guarantee strong sales will continue, but Infinity Ward will see the figures as a validation that their vision was the correct one for the franchise.
