CIC7 in Malaysia and CoD4 gets €9,000
@ Crossfire Intel Challenge 7 channel

The CIC series has expanded to Asia and we see an increase in the CoD4 prize fund at CIC7 Enschede

The Crossfire Intel Challenge has expanded from just a European LAN held in Enschede, Holland, to one that now has an event out in Petaling Jaya, Selganor in Malaysia.

The event will run at the same time as the event in Enschede, with competitions in CoD4, CS and QuakeLive. They have partnered with ESP to run the CIC in Malaysia, which could turn into a regular event.

The event organiser of CIC7 Malaysia Brian Chan said the following to TosspoT on Crossfire.nu:

I've always wanted to organize something larger, something a little more meaningful than just another tournament. I wanted to create a future for the gaming industry here in Malaysia, something everyone could look forward to every year where they will meet, test their skill and also, most importantly have loads of fun. The Crossfire Intel Challenge and their team of organizers are great examples of this and I'm proud to have been given the chance to show this to the rest of Asia.

My goals for this event are fairly simple : to give the opportunity to this region to be a part of gaming communities other than their own, to give them something to look forward to and eventually be able to compete against each other in the future, be it in Europe, the United States or our home ground, in Malaysia.

In other news TosspoT has announced that the prize fund for the CIC7 Enschede CoD4 tournament has jumped up to a massive €9,000 provided 42 teams pay up. As it currently stands, TosspoT has confirmation of 38 teams, but community organiser Vanner has confirmation that 43 teams had paid the money. Hopefully these extra 5 teams will be confirmed by TosspoT shortly, to take it to €9,000.

This is how the prize triggers look:

10 Teams = €3000
16 Teams = €4000
20 Teams = €5000
26 Teams = €6000
30 Teams = €7000
36 Teams = €8000

42 Teams = €9000

If vanner's calculations are correct, the €9000 trigger has already been hit, and there is a potential for more teams to pay. However TosspoT has said in a comment on TEK9 that there may not be anymore triggers after this:

Payment list is updated. 38 Paid - Also I've added one more trigger, not sure what the next one will be (it may well be the last).

This brings up the issue of how the tournament is going to be run, as having 40+ teams competiting in a TUP tournament over 3 days as well as an ET tournament and a QuakeLive tournament is no easy task. I caught up with TosspoT to find out a bit more about the schedule:

The scheduling is of course going to be a tricky subject, however at CC6 we made some big changes. Firstly we moved to a tennis style of scheduling, saying this group of matches will be played between these 4 hours. It allowed us to be much more accurate and account for setup times, to the point where we were nearly always on schedule last event. Secondly we're bringing in more PC's! Dont fear about that, we've not quite nailed our PC numbers yet but we will expand beyond the 4 walls of WZZRD and onto the balcony & into the sports bar. Thirdly we're going to offer teams the chance to play some matches on Thursday afternoon/evening if they're in town - as a reward for it they'll get a longer setup time & match time. Allowing teams to play on Thursday gives us the hope of easing the conjestion of the event schedule, though we're pretty confident of managing it of course.

This all looks promising but with the amount of teams in attendance, it is still going to be a very busy event. Cadred and TEK9 will be on site to bring you all the coverage throughout the long weekend so make sure you stay tuned for plenty of news and coverage leading up to the event.
